Orienteering race 1:18:16 [3] *** 6.5 km (12:02 / km) +330m 9:36 / km
15c

Blue at Joe Grant. The course was not particularly technical and very open. The total climb was not huge but the hills were much steeper than usual. Along with the heat this made it quite physical. I ran a good race with no mistakes except a couple of times I took a bad line to the control, losing some time. I always knew where I was. I clearly ran out of gas at the end.

Soccer 1:00:00 [2]

small game and a hot day. Three days of soccer in a row is definitely a good thing.

Soccer 1:30:00 [3]

Nick Lau came from Malaysia, Ben Weston and Chris Nicholson also came down and we found a game. It was fun to play with those guys again.

Running 32:34 [3] 3.5 mi (9:18 / mi) +200m 7:54 / mi

foothills short loop with Jason. It was a nice evening and a good run.

Football 1:45:00 [3]

first game in a long time. it was a lot of fun.

Running 50:11 [3] 5.1 mi (9:50 / mi) +200m 8:46 / mi

El Corte de Madera alone, the usual 'lollipop' loop. I was having a good run until about midway my stomach started hurting and I had to slow down. Still not too bad though. I'm so glad spring is here.

Soccer 1:10:00 [3]

good game, beautiful day.

Running 51:03 [3] 5.3 mi (9:38 / mi) +290m 8:14 / mi

foothills alone. It was a beautiful day for a run, crisp but not cold with blue skies. I felt strong the whole way through and came close to my record time without really having to push too hard. It was a good run. The trails were wetter than I've ever seen them, making downhills quite slow. I probably lost some time because of that.

Orienteering race 28:01 [4] *** 3.0 km (9:20 / km) +80m 8:14 / km
17c

Sprint at Spring Lake. Made two mistakes which lost me a minute or two. Both mistakes were controls where the map was pretty far from the truth so most people made similar mistakes. Otherwise I had a fine race although my legs started to give out near the end. It was fairly long for a sprint.

Orienteering 47:57 [2] ** 5.0 km (9:35 / km) +100m 8:43 / km

Easter/tax day score o at Spring Lake. It was just all the courses for the day, although you only actually had to find the six marked controls, but you didn't know which they were. I only remembered one of the right six controls from the sprint so it didn't help me. The orienteering wasn't hard since I'd been to the sprint controls and the others were white/yellow. I also didn't push as hard.

Soccer 1:15:00 [2]

It was pretty pathetic showing on my part. It's going to take me a little while to adjust to the heat.

Sunday Apr 9, 2006 #

Running 35:09 [2] 4.0 mi (8:47 / mi) +10m 8:43 / mi

Ran with uncle Bob on the streets near their house. The distance is approximate. We took it easier and I felt fine the whole way.

Running 27:12 [3] 3.6 mi (7:33 / mi) +60m 7:11 / mi

Same run as yesterday. This time I did wear my watch. My quads definitely hurt from yesterday and I had to slow down around halfway. We started faster than yesterday though so I don't think I lost too much time.

Running 25:00 [4] 3.6 mi (6:57 / mi) +60m 6:36 / mi

Running with Liam at Cheesequake. The time and climb are just guesses since I didn't wear a watch and don't have a map.

I was definitely out of shape from recent weeks of little running. Still I managed to keep up a good pace the whole way. Running with Liam definitely pushed me to run harder. Also, the small rolling hills were a nice change and meant I could really run over them (though the wooden stairs made it more challenging). It was all in all a fun run through woods and swamps. It sure is cold here in the east!
