3,000m steeplechase, Southern Athletics League fixture 2, Ashton Playing Fields
Ah, a return to the connoisseur's track event. Having attended a steeplechase workshop at Parliament Hill Fields last Saturday, I hoped to be able to put into practice some of my learnings from this, and generally see what kind of time I could do these days.

It hadn't helped that last weekend's workshop had mainly involved barriers at the women's height, so the man-sized barriers took a little re-acquianting. I tried a number of practice clearances (step-overs, I've not done enough hurdle technique work to make it worth me even trying to clear them) but alas my technique turned to mush by a few laps in.

No face, shin or other body part plants, but far too much stride chopping and near-double footed splash landings in the water jump. At least I didn't have any serious competition to worry about - I lapped one guy twice, another once and was 100m from catching the other two - and all in all I'd say I'm reasonably pleased with the outcome; 6 seconds off (slower than) my PB despite truely shocking jumps, so hopefully I'll be able to get sub 10:15 or 10:10 by later in the summer, once Berlin training kicks in.
