Orienteering race 16:40 [5] 3.7 km (4:30 / km) +15m 4:25 / km
shoes: X-talons 212 (Blue/orange)

JWOC Sprint - 16:41 +2:00mins

Until a couple of days before I wasn't completely decided whether to run this or not. In the end decided to run it with the aim of having a clean race and to experience the start procedure, quarantine, ect so I could get into the competitive mindset

Started well and ran my first 3 controls cleanly and comfortably with a good buffer zone where I had planned ahead. On 4 I choose a route with a long straight running section to plan ahead, ran hard and was checking out the long leg later on when I suddenly tripped on a wire. Ended up slamming onto the concrete and sliding along on my front. Spent about 10 seconds just lying on the floor in complete shock, thought I had dislocated my shoulder for a few seconds and rolled it around to check, stared at a bystander like an idiot for a bit and then eventually realised I should probably get back to orienteering.

Ran cleanly on my preplanned routes from then on, but my mind was completely distracted thinking about retiring and about the cuts all up my legs and arms. Got to the long leg and chose a bad route at the last minute and really struggled to get my head back in it. Ran the rest of the course cleanly but slower after that.

Overall lost ~20 seconds on 4 and 30 seconds on long leg 9
Was quite annoyed that I had managed to get myself so beaten up on a race that I was using as a warm up for my target race, the long the next day. In terms of positives, (apart from my 2 slow ones) my splits were consistently a few seconds behind the top guys. For a race that I thought I wasn't racing in until a few days before and a race I never went into my top gear in terms of speed I was happy to be only 2 mins down
