Note
Laramie Daze are here! Must watch out for falling trees, and remember to yield to horses and moose, but only maybe to bikers.
Orienteering 1:40:00 [4]
shoes: Saucony (snake)
First day of Laramie Daze. Managed to arrive just shortly after, and park right next to Craig W., in my shiny orange Camaro, which fit into the O scene real well.
1 - Got close enough and then since it was a mass start, was able to see people at the control. Still, it's surprising how quickly the crowd disperses, despite the mass start.
2 - Again, got close enough and then scanned the ridge.
3 - good
4 - Was too far west of the control, but on the right contour line.
5 - Had trouble, but it seemed a number of people did and someone mentioned that a re-entrant was missing from the map.
6 - fine
7 - happy with this one.
8 - Oh, a very green experience to the fence. Much greener than the map let on. After crossing the fence I followed the trail to the first hairpin turn, left the trail and planned to follow the contour line past the re-entrant. I'm disappointed that I let myself get distracted by the other orienteers. I had a good plan, and had I kept with it, would have found the control in much better time.
9 - Took the stream to the trail, which was slow, but pretty and fun. Nice run down to 9.
10 - Surprisingly difficult trek to 10. I think it was the change in altitude. Any climb at all seemed to get me incredibly winded.
