Orienteering 2:37:20 [4] 4.97 mi (31:40 / mi) +245m 27:27 / mi
shoes: Purple Discounted Icebugs

Can I blame it on my new shoes? So lost on at least 3 controls. Today's controls were located in places where I felt there weren't very significant features to distinguish. Either too many of the same thing, or weak contours, or lack of veggie details on the map. I think I was out longer than I was at the kid goat! If that's the case then I suppose I have to say that these icebugs did work out better than my previous pair of shoes. Feet don't feel as blistered, but I wish they hugged better side to side.

Made a new friend, Tom, at a water hole (just like the animals do!), and walked back from the finish with him after.

It was really nice running into George towards the end, right after a huge climb that landed me somewhere I hadn't expected, and I was ready to just sit on a rock and enjoy the view. I was telling him that I always feel like when I see a WCOC uniform, I can follow someone to safety... almost like ski patrol. Except maybe Charlie (missed you on day 2!), who might get me back but maybe not in one piece.

Overall, I like being on Green... I think I was ready to move off Orange and despite my performance I do feel like I am getting more in touch with the map. I would never have even used that expression before, actually. So it's a start!

Nice spell at Peekskill Brewery afterwards, with Greg, Sagi and Asiya... $8 for half a grapefruit with sugar cubes (not that any of us ordered that)!

Orienteering 1:48:13 [4] 4.35 mi (24:53 / mi) +240m 21:14 / mi

First time on a green course since the second time I went orienteering (ever) at sessions woods. Spent lots of time pushing through the blueberry like it was some kind of sludge was a new sensation for me. I think this is why I keep coming back for more... like when I fell into an icy stream in CT this Winter.

It was an encouraging run overall, from a navigational perspective.

I finally bought a real pair of O shoes!
