Long bike leg
Made our way to the New River Rail Trail. Did 9 miles on that stopping to check out an island/peninsula on DCR property and the Hoover MTB trails. The trails were nice. Mostly beginner. Not a lot of trails but a nice addition for us. They were pretty tightly packed as well. Also got to see the old pigment quarry.
Then we took the back way to Rock Creek (Dry Branch) and rode up Rock Creek. This was true AR MTB. Rocky and slow with constant creek crossings. Fortunately, most of it (including the crossings) was rideable.
Eventually made it to the top of Macks Mountain as the sky was clearing up for some nice views. We rode the ridge along the Blue Ridge Scout Reservation property and then came down Big Macks Creek and up Gumstand. Then down Greenwood to Sidewinder. Trails were littered with uncleared fallen trees. They must not of had enough campers this summer to warrant or enable them to clear the trails. The trail riding would have been more enjoyable and much faster had they been more clear.
We finished riding out of Powhatan back towards the house. GPS died with a few miles to go so I turned on Strava on my phone.
