Claytor Lake Paddle ROGAINE - Paddling
Started right at daylight at Mark and Lora's new house. Lake was pretty quiet. Got a little bit of rain as we were making our way back towards the house.

Added a few controls mostly to increase the trekking but did add one section we had to paddle to.

At the end we picked up the SUPs, dropped the canoe on the other side of the lake and paddled back. This was so we wouldn't have to swim across at the end of the course potentially in the cold dark night. It ended up not being too cold or dark when we got back but was better safe than sorry. Also I ended up falling off the SUP anyway. It didn't help not having a rudder. Also my first time. So when I got back on I just stayed on my knees.

Claytor Lake Paddle ROGAINE - Trekking
This was almost entirely on AEP land surrounding the lake. We did run into one hunter who leases the land for hunting and thought we weren't allowed to be there but AEP had given us permission.

Added a few controls more than planned to increase the trekking.

TA
After I fell in I got my wet clothes off. Actually threw some in the dryer real quick while we prepped for the bike. Lora had made us some soup as well.

Long bike leg
Made our way to the New River Rail Trail. Did 9 miles on that stopping to check out an island/peninsula on DCR property and the Hoover MTB trails. The trails were nice. Mostly beginner. Not a lot of trails but a nice addition for us. They were pretty tightly packed as well. Also got to see the old pigment quarry.

Then we took the back way to Rock Creek (Dry Branch) and rode up Rock Creek. This was true AR MTB. Rocky and slow with constant creek crossings. Fortunately, most of it (including the crossings) was rideable.

Eventually made it to the top of Macks Mountain as the sky was clearing up for some nice views. We rode the ridge along the Blue Ridge Scout Reservation property and then came down Big Macks Creek and up Gumstand. Then down Greenwood to Sidewinder. Trails were littered with uncleared fallen trees. They must not of had enough campers this summer to warrant or enable them to clear the trails. The trail riding would have been more enjoyable and much faster had they been more clear.

We finished riding out of Powhatan back towards the house. GPS died with a few miles to go so I turned on Strava on my phone.

Finish of the bike ride back to the lake. We loaded the bikes onto the canoe and paddled the 100m across the lake. As mentioned swimming wouldn't have been too big of a deal as it had warmed up a bit during the day and wasn't too dark yet.

Homeplace w/Zitch/Skip/E 40# Pack
Real humid 67DP. Forest is looking beautiful though. Still pretty wet from the rain this weekend.

Felt like a hard effort with a slow result. R Knee was super tender after getting back to the house specifically going up or down a step. Faded after 30 mins or so.

Saw Sean finishing up his run as we ran up the FS road.
