Ride from CBurg after dropping off the car. Cold 20F. Wore casual clothes.
Had a unfortunate experience on the bike trail. I was riding along a fairly straight stretch. The first and only person I saw was walking two dogs both on 8-10ft leashes in opposite directions easily taking up the entire trail as they walked towards me. I waited about 3 seconds and since I saw no attempt to get out of the way I yelled out "Heads up, Heads up." I was then berated and told to slow down as he started to pull his dogs back. GPS has me going 17mph and I had no trouble slowing down at a reasonable rate to avoid crashing into him well before I got to him. I responded that I was going a safe enough speed and pointed out that he was taking up the whole trail. He told me to F- off.
I am not sure why he was so angry at my warning. Either he didn't see me and my warning was necessary to avoid a crash (or me having to stop completely and leave the trail) or maybe he feels he can use the entire trail and everyone else should avoid him. I may have been going too fast to pass someone as I approached but I was able to slow to the speed I needed to well before passing.
All I would have hoped for was a better attempt to make space for another trail user (I was the only other one on the trail from what I could tell) or a thank you for alerting him that I was coming when he may not have noticed me yet.
I guess that's too much to ask for.
