Horrible run. Legitimately lost once. Severe mistake another time. Several mishandled controls. A few spiked controls. Out of shape.
Overall it was difficult to navigate because the bike trails which are numerous were not mapped and some mapped trails did not exist. When you were unsure of where you were, which happened to me numerous times, it was hard to know for sure where you might be because of this. I also felt like I was having trouble with the contours.
Had a slow run to 1 because I didn't think I was on course but my route seemed perfect. 2 was clean. Misread my map on the way to 3 causing a poor route. Got a little lost on my way to 4 trying to figure out which trail I hit. 5 semi-clean. Got a little off route and unsure on my way to 6. 7 clean.
Then 8. My initial bearing was on but then I went down the wrong spur. I came to a trail but wasn't sure what trail it was and if it was even on the map. Wondered a bit until I finally figured out where I was. Clean to 9 because it was where I had gotten lost.
Then on 10 (long route) I was coming up a spur and hit a trail. I didn't see the intersection I was expecting so I turned left and walked. Found the next intersection down but didn't check the bearing and wrongly went down it. When the trail I ended unexpectedly I was lost. Took some wondering and then I looked back at the map and realized the mistake I made without going back. Went directly to the CP without backtracking. 11, 12, 13 clean.
14 was a another long route. I opted to take the trails which I think was the best route. I ended up veering off the trail a bit early but only lost a little bit. Came over the spur to 15 and saw people standing at 16 only 200ft up stream and went there instead. Punched without checking the control and walked up stream looking for 16. Had to go back past 16 to punch 15 and repunch 16.
17,18, Go all clean. Tired.
