http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/113792509We got to Hopi Camp and were told Tecnu2 still hadn't arrived and we still had a CP advantage on SRF. Tecnu1 was in the lead. This was good news. We had been dissappointed at our pace because Joel was having some leg troubles and Kristen was trying to push as hard as possible. Julia and I were trying to do as much work as possible to keep the team moving as fast as possible.
We moved quickly through transition hoping we could clean the next section and keep our CP lead over SRF. The first few points were close to camp and I accidentally got tripped up in a branch. I fell on my knee. Julia said she heard the crack it made. I was worried what this might lead to. I took a minute and then grabbed the branch to use as a walking stick and kept moving on.
We took the next section slow. Mostly walking with occasional sections that I tried to shuffle. In addition we had forgotten to get water and were all just about out and moving further away from water. We were about to attack the last optional and decided it was too risky to make our 12pm cutoff on the water. As we prepared to leave for the water I looked at my knee and it was twice as big as it was supposed to be. I tried to walk and couldn't bend my knee. I then told the team that I was done. There was now way I could race for 2 mroe hours let alone 24. I was already fearing spending 2 or 3 hours in the boats.
We walked down to the bigger road and waited to get picked up. On our way we passed a garbage dump in the woods that had a recliner. I was tempted to relax but the team kept me moving. Doug, and the camera crew showed up in short time to take us back to Hidden Valley.
Dissappointed we had to drop with things looking up but nothing we could do. Save it for next race. Time to heal... again.
