35F and snowing. Because of the temp it didn't stick right away but there was a thin layer on the ground when I finished.

Was feeling rested but legs seemed a little slow on the climbs. First time check was a little behind schedule. I pushed the rest of the climbs and finished with a decent time. Effort was high on the climbs but comfortable elsewhere.

Was my second fastest time on this loop but only really started running it last winter.

Easy loop. Weather was nice. Warm enough for shorts/SS but still a chill in the air and crisp, clean woods.

Wildcat Course Clearing

Good day. Postponed from yesterday because I was worried there might be a lot of ice from freezing rain like we had in BBurg. Got a report from a local though that said it was just snow so that was good.

Drove out (had some trouble finding the entrance without my phone) and started a little later than I wanted just before 10. Temp was 30F and sunny at the start and I was warm enough to go SS. Accidentally brought lone tights instead of 3/4. It warmed up to 40 but the sun disappeared and got windy. I thought it felt colder than at the start.

I was picking up all the controls that had been left and there were a few scattered here and there. I dropped down to Thurmond Rd to switch from the W to E end of camp. Had a steep descent and a big ascent though. I also didn't have a ton of controls so I didn't mind lengthening some of my route choices a bit to check something out or save some elevation. It was 2 miles and 45 mins shorter than I did last year and 700ft less elevation.

I had a little trouble finding one of the bearing points because I wasn't using the bearings (just where Mark told me they were) and I didn't match the clues up correctly. Everything else was pretty clean. Got cliffed out once.

Started getting pretty tired and weak just before the 6 hour mark. Could have done a little more but was glad to be done.

Saw a beautiful fox on the southern end of camp. He ran away though as I pulled out my phone to take a picture.

Easy loop just because I hadn't ran in a while and I wanted to get the dogs out but didn't want to do too much before my big day tomorrow.

Trails were a mess. Beast was the only one that looked decent at times. Found fallen ice crystals at the east end of Skullcap and at the top of Brush. Some snow coming up Snakeroot as well.

Felt good. Was trying to watch my HR but the monitor was clearly all over the place. I did some seven 20' sprints after I got down Beast.

Almost made it the whole run without seeing a single person. Saw one group of 3 runners on PCT.

Listening to the watch a bit again and doing a shorter run than I would have planned myself.

Raining and chilly 40F.

Lick Run
A little bit longer than my short run. Added some on Mt Zion.

I decided to do the workout suggested by my watch which was a short light workout with some sprints. The software had trouble with determining the right pace because of the hills. I started on a downhill and so it thought the pace was too slow and bumped my warmup and cooldown to like a 7' pace. It would be better if it had target heart rates in addition to or instead of target speeds.

Pandaplace w/Zitch/Skip Snow <2"
Chilly. Was cold on the walk with the girls so I made sure to not be cold for this. Probably a bit overdressed but had I worn less I probably would have felt a bit cold at times. Temp was around 30F and windy. Homeplace had snow but PCT and FS Road we melted enough to run through but sloppy and muddy.

Ran into Sean and Luna again at their house. They were heading back to the middle of the mountain again and we saw them again there.

Pandapas Snow-O w/Zitch/Skip
Clearing the course Mark set 2 weeks ago. Very slushy which made going up and down the steep spurs on Brush quite difficult.

Forgot my watch. Doubted myself on CP 2 and didn't have my compass to confirm so I checked another reentrant before coming back to where I was. Then climbed higher than I needed to for CP3. And then came off the wrong spur on my way to CP 12. Attack to CP15 also could have been better with a compass.

Snowy driveway but road was completely clean. Felt comfortable.

Ran into and thanked the Verizon guy only to find out our internet was back out when I got home.

Also saw another runner, Joe, with his German Shepherd who lives on Norris Run. Have seen him at least once before from a distance.

3" of snow. Ice anywhere snow had been packed down which fortunately wasn't much on the mountain. I was hoping to do this run in the dark last night but there wasn't enough moonlight combined with the snow melting off the trees.

Saw tracks out of Sean's house as I ran by as well as his neighbors. Saw tracks again coming from Double D and going to the top (but not coming back). Shortly after we ran into Sean and Luna on their way back.

Relaxed and slow pace. The bottom of Turtle was super slick underneath the snow. Came across a ton of Turkey tracks near the upper cave. Did some trail clearing.

Wore two watches to compare.
