Very happy with that. A new PB (by a full 11 seconds), but this was more unprepared with a chaotic summer, and easier during the last 5k. Certainly better than I was expecting after the slowdown in training during the last 5-6 weeks. 1:30 had been the target (and I wasn't confident in that).
Beautiful course that started in the picturesque, but narrow, Kew Gardens. I was at the back of my wave (only got there with 15s to go - no warming up) and was dodging quite a few people who had clearly overestimated their finishing time when stating they could do 90mins. Settled down into a good 2x2 breathing and strides rhythm and kept my cadence uppish.
Started pushing slightly with around 5-6k to go... legs weren't nearly as sore as towards the end last time, but I had a brief moment of feeling flat before heading into the final mile. Recovered to push the last k in 3:55, with only a couple of hints of cramp coming on.
Surely I can do better if I can string together a consistent period of training prior to a race, but two post-summer occasions have been disrupted by the holiday period. Maybe a spring one would be better
