Kong Mini mountain marathon from Dolgelleau. with Henry.
Weather was pretty bad. Forecast was correct. Rain all day, single digit temps low down but way below that on the tops due to wind chill.

Got the maps at registration so planned a route on the way to the start. Already plotted to go nowhere near Cadair and over the ridge as it would be too much at my level of fitness.
Was going well for the first hour or so but even at the lower level Henry started to get cold. Somehow decided a t shirt and windstopper was enough.
The stream crossing was a bit much to be fair. What would usually be calf deep was almost chest deep due to the recent heavy rain and pretty fast flowing. The checkpoint at Llyn Gafr was another wading exercise to to actually punch the thing and by this time I think Henry had had enough.
Saw the signs of early hyperthermia on the way to next control so got him in full warm kit but he was still shivering by the next summit control. Decided to just head back via a direct fence line which turned out to be not the best idea as it was some of the roughest terrain I've been in. Real slow going.
Suitably warmed up on lower ground we managed to get a couple more controls and at a push could've got back an hour early but just plodded in.

Looking now it seems we'd have dropped lower anyway if sticking to the planned route and maybe he'd have been ok but no regrets on the decision made. Always with these things it's coulda/woulda. Would've gained an extra 100 points and been back still in plenty of time.

Note; I was dry as a bone and plenty warm in helly and Ron Hill/ME shake dry. Shame they had to stop making shake dry fabric because nothing comes close.
