Edale Skyline recce.
I say recce but it was just a run around the route. Quickly decided I won't be doing the race.
It's just a trail run on some grit and flag stones. Got a bit better after Lose Hill but was too little to late.
Maybe just the wind and cold.

Should've known better than to frequent another event utilising EMIT.
Wasted a lot of time early on ensuring the card registered. Although looks like I didnt spend enough time at #24.
Performance was terrible anyway. really out of practice in this WM terrain.
The RG trace says it all. Running around in circles for pretty much every control.

Another recce of the wrekin wrecker route with Henry.
Raining heavy pretty much all the time and a rare occasion I wore a coat the whole time. Piss wet through by the end. Can't see much point in these light weight jackets. Pertex shield absolutely useless.
Run was good though. We went the whole route this time.
Ran all of it except for the real steep bit on South side. Although some of the up hills I probably could've walked quicker.

Not my heart rate. Picking up Henry's sensor.

Easy reverse towpath loop.
Fault finding skills revealed the faulty heart rate component to be the hr receiver itself. Henry's receiver works fine.

Don't know if they are dumbing down the routes but these latest sets of red and blacks I'd argue are graded too soft.
Either that or I'm improving. I'd go with the former.

Got up relatively early for a chase run. Perfect temps for me. Just chilly but still shorts & tshirt.
Felt I was moving ok. Just a little stiff. Lacking range of movement in legs.. and arms.
Still slow compared to the effort I was putting in. HR data is wrong.
Having problems with HR strap. New strap, new battery, re-paired it. Just wont hold on to the right reading. Try a watch factory reset next.

Helping out at the West mids, East mids, South central O training on Burton Dassett hills.
Supposed to be helping anyway but ended up doing most of the training maps because I'm still crap at O.
Pathless contour map. I got lost on and couldn't find at least 3 of the 7 controls.
Walked the line courses. Finally sort of getting it. Walking around intricate contour features. Seemed the most beneficial exercise.
Circle maps. Shadowed Henry around one concentrating on flow.

Shadowed Alfie round a line course. He was closer to line than expected.

Finished up with some hill reps to introduce the kids to one aspect of winter training.
Good session and weather held off.

Might do the Wrekin Wrecker this year.
Weather looked good so marked up a map with what I thought was the correct route and headed up to Wrekin Course.
After hitting M54 it pissed down all the way there.
Followed the route OK with a couple of involved bits of nav. All quite familiar now.
Not until we got back did I figure out we were a little short. One descent from Wrekin follws the Fell race route down the steep gully and rejoins the path going back up. The other bit was on the opposite side where we should have gone up and over little hill before returning to teh start on teh fire road.

Breidden Hills Fell Race.
Expecting it to piss down all race but surprisingly held off.
Didn't feel great before the start. A bit sick and lacking energy.
Legs a bit heavy as well after the ride yesterday.
First long climb up the fire road was dreadful. Both aesthetically and performance wise. Route was all good after that with shifting cloud over Moel y golfa a highlight.
Slacked off a bit later in the race as I was not really feeling it to push.
Similar time wise to my only other showing in 2017. Which is OK as it was a lot muddier today.
Weakness due to crap food yesterday.

Ride over to blue spade via Brocton trails and the new Fisher trail. Loads of folk about. Tagged on to Rooney and pro Phil again. Showed us dew drop trail off side of lower cliff. Good one.

Wildwood night O.
Worst performance ever. Completely misjudged it. Decided to miss out 2x outliers. One on path opposite the Radford and one down back of allotments. Consequently got back over 15 minutes early(didn't initially know it was 45min score so went back to ask). Went back out to get said Radford control but really couldn't be arsed.
Map was shit, no SI(reflective tape on lamp posts) and they now want a quid for the privilege.

After 2 days of unsuccessfully trying to push onto EA1 and then spending the rest of those days bobbing about feeling sick I said sod it and stayed in the hotel today and took a leisurely drive home 'cus I we got no chance of getting anything done this week.
tried to push this a bit harder. Henry was on a similar run so intercepted at the rifle ranges trig and tried to hang on to his heels on the way back.
Felt more sprightly as of late but the numbers say otherwise.

High Ball Norwich.
Weather day at work so drove over to Norwich for another bash at this place.
Previously left scratching my head as I couldn't get past a grade 1 but this time actually read the grading chart and found they used their own grades - equivalent to font grades. Ranging 1 - 5.
Persevered a bit more this time and figured out a few of the problems. They all followed a similar theme that involved at least one twist to lean in the opposite direction than was obvious. Once the penny dropped I sent a few 2 and 3 grades.

Liverpool City race.
Took an empty inhaler so couldn't bloody breathe. Also made a couple of daft mistakes. One due to indecision and the other due to over familiarity. Map swap was a balls up as well. Opened the plastic box and the maps blew all over the docks.
Good race though. A lot easier than London.

Lost a fair bit of strength but felt energy levels a bit better because of the extra sleep I've been getting of late due to lack of work. Sent a red which is always pleasing but feel it was graded a bit soft. A few blacks as well before the forearms gave up.
