Was quite up for this mid week but everyone in my house has got colds (apart from dog) so as expected sore throat and dead legs all last night.
Woke up feeling like death. Got bike out but felt it it was a stupid idea and went back to bed. Got up an hour later feeling a bit better then realised I had an extra hour and would just make the start.
Set off with no particular plan so headed down the towpath to the aquaduct. Quite well hidden punches for these events by the looks of it. Then to the haywoods, completely unfamiliar but steady enough.
Elastic bands snapped on map board mk2 as did the spares, map in pocket.
Ended up rushing around relocating, getting frustrated then realising I'd missed out about 4 controls which were gimmes. Cruised in from chase road corner.
This ain't for me. Think I said that last time.

Big blue cock spray painted on the path before the finish summed it all up really.
Bashed my foot badly on a rusty metal bar at mile 20. Gave up after that.

It was still miserable and the blue cock is still there albeit faded. over an hour faster this time and 29th place. Could have gone well below 9hrs but was on call for work..and got a call. The over the phone fix to a Welsh chap in Whitson took well over an hour.
..And Roger took us on a couple of detours.

So shoot me in the head.

Night O score in Penkridge. Close to the fields at the back of Edele's dad's. Missed an easy one around the street parts and made a meal of the parkland bits.
2 sets of 3 outlying controls which would take some time to get. Got the one set but not the other because of time wasted during the earlier punch hunting.
Not really the best of planned routes either as I visited 2 of the same controls twice.
