LOK Alexandra Palace GLOSS
Good run, with only one minor navigational error. Very disappointed to have missed punching control #11 which was on a straight line between #10 and #12. Will have passed within 5-10m of it.

Gorgeous sunny afternoon in the Lakes: Wetherlam, Swirl How, Grey Friar and finally Great Carrs before descending back to Little Langdale. Longer than I've been used to but felt good all the way round, apart from the steep ascent obviously! Windy but beautifully sunny. Passed the wreckage from the 1944 Halifax bomber crash. Quite a powerful sight.

Another navigation issue. Again no compass, and this time the map wasn't even OS: it was a map of the whole Lake District showing major roads and a few summits. The weather was good, and the elderly gentleman had a good idea of where he was, but no real idea of how to get down from the col between Wetherlam and Swirl How to get to Coniston. Good grief.

Pike O'Blisco with the children: Jamie, Anja, Luke and Sue (who's not a child).

People's lack of navigational ability astounds and concerns me sometimes. We met a father and son in the col between PoB and Crinkle Crags, with an OS map but no compass, asking if they were up near Eel Tarn, the other side of Bow Fell. They'd come up the wrong side of the spur down from Bow Fell.

With cloud base below the summits and winds gusting up to 40mph on the tops, it wasn't exactly a great day to be lost on the fells…

Relishing the opportunity to get out for a couple of hours on my own while away with the family. That doesn't sound good, does it?
