JK Hambleden
Pretty steady performance on the long distance, despite my relative lack of fitness. No major mistakes, apart from heading too far down the hill at control #16. Fourth fastest time on #24 (downhill towards the finish) and second on the run in. More analysis to come.

JK Whiteknights Campus
Three mistakes cost me 2:00 and anything approaching a decent placing. That's sprint races. At least there was no mis-punching. Fastest on legs 3 and the finish, 4th on leg 5. Which is nice.

GO Verdley Wood
A frustrating morning out, but if I was going to have an unsatisfying run, it is better to choose today rather than the JK. Mispunched on control 9, but then punched it later (by mistake) which has completely thrown out my official splits. Detailed reasons why in the splits analysis. Other than that, navigation was pretty good; fitness was not. I think I should have been about 10 minutes faster than this.

Tired after a late night finish on Saturday and after two weeks of long hours at work. Really felt the extra weight I'm clearly carrying on the uphill sections. Once (if!) the weather warms up, I'll be back commuting on the bike which will help.

DFOK Chelwood Vachery
A jog round with Jamie. Very wet underfoot. He did well. Too cold for him to hold the map (…!), but he got the directions from each control right and seems to have some form of in-built compass that tells him which way is N, S, E and W!

A non-competitive third place out of 19 competitors. He needs some experience doing these courses alone.

Orienteering race (street-o) 59:19 [4] 11.67 km (5:05 / km) +63m 4:57 / km
shoes: New Balance MR1080BW v2.1

SLOW Highbury Street-O
I initially thought I'd run a short distance, but I actually think it was poor route choice and navigation, as I think there's something up with the start location - see where I start and how long km1 is on the attached GPX.

My first sheet had no questions on the back. I returned and swapped it, but it threw me and in my rush to get moving again I headed off without really looking at the map. I ended up mopping up the west side of the map and running back on a line through the centre/east, missing most of the north east and the high value south east. Heading out east would probably have been more lucrative.

A couple of overshot junctions early on, from missing streets as I ran and read the map at the same time.

Overall didn't tire too badly, but I'm not as fast as I was six months ago.

SO Worthlodge with Jamie & Anja
Really good run round the Yellow course today. Anja got all the navigation right and Jamie ran his socks off at the end.

Jamie came sixth, two minutes ahead of Anja in eighth. Nicolas Barrett won, five minutes ahead of Jamie having run it alone. Jamie's namesake James Lund was in joint fourth.
