"It's like riding a bike," they said… Whoever said that clearly hadn't ridden a bike with gears, because I have clearly forgotten.
Last time I was out on my bike, I did this ride and captioned it, "First time out in almost a year." That was last July. Two rides in 18 months. It doesn't quite add up because I really do enjoy being out on my bike.
Anyway, since I was last out they have made my bike's gears much more complicated. There are two sets of cogs: front and back. The ones at the back are a bit smaller. The chain can go over bigger ones or smaller ones. Big ones at the front make you go faster. Big ones at the back make you go slower. Right?
Now, to control these. There are four levers at the front of the bike. The two on the left control the front cogs, and the two on the right control the back ones. The levers right at the front move the chain on to bigger cogs, and the ones just behind move it onto smaller ones. Still following?
So to go faster, you can either use the front left lever (which makes the front cog bigger) or the back right lever (which makes the back cog smaller, of course).
Simple, isn't it? So how come I've completely forgotten what does what?
