SLOW Wimbledon Common Night-O
A fast course that I should have done better on. I wasn't aware of being slow on control #2 (although I was) and made a small route choice error which amplified on #4. Same again on #7. Details in the split commentary.

Over-ran 32%; race pace 7:38.

HH Burnham Beeches & Egypt Wood
Lovely to be running on open beech woodland again - just like home above Wendover. The first half was good, to the extent that I was marginally ahead of Mike at about the halfway mark. However the latter part of the second half as we entered less clear-cut areas saw me rushing and losing connection with the map. A shame to end so badly, eight minutes down.

Over-ran 18%; race pace was 8:06 per mile. Fastest split for the final control on both Black and Short Brown, which doesn't make up for a poor second half, but is still quite useful!

TVOC Christmas Common
Great to be out running in the forest, but it was 3ºC, chucking it down with rain and windy. Perhaps not best to be running in just a short-sleeved t-shirt.

A good run, largely on bearings with few mistakes overall. More split comments to come later.

6th out of 41, which I'm quite pleased with.

Lovely ride in. Wind like "treacle" again on the way home. Felt like I was pulling a kite along at times. Tiring. Almost looking forward to getting the train tomorrow morning.

Ranmore Common and Staple Lane
Deceptively cold wind today, but beautiful sunny afternoon otherwise. A combination of having ridden 100 miles already this week, raced on Tuesday evening and generally poor conditioning meant that I had very little to offer on the climbs. Surprisingly and pathetically slow at times.

I probably noted this before, but last summer I genuinely wasn't aware of the climb from Effingham Junction up to Ranmore Common. Six months later and I'm aware of every slight change in the gradient. I need to drop the weight and get the strength back.

Hit by a car on the way home which pulled out of a side road opposite me and then squeezed through a gap by a pedestrian crossing, brushing me. I didn't come off and there was no damage, but he/she drove off without stopping. Furious. Called the police but got the registration number wrong.
