Uh-oh...

Caused by new exercises (bounding/jumping/hopping) with too much intensity too often. Maybe exacerbated by running in aggressive minimalist shoes around the same time.
Should have picked up something was wrong earlier and stopped.
Eventually found that gradual reintroduction of running with lots of stretching was the best cure. Complete rest seemed to lead to no improvement and maybe even made it worse.
