R Knee, Other

2012-07-22 – 2012-11-15

Grade: 4

First noticed a couple of weeks ago at the start of reps, but no problem while running.
It seems to have flared up after a big weekend of training.
Just below the right knee on the inside.

Its sore. I can walk around. I even run slowly after warming up without too much trouble. It's painful when trying to run fast though.

Running volume has been increased gradually over last six to eight weeks

On Sunday I ran 24kms. Later that day after sitting on the couch for about an hour, I felt pain on the side of my knee.

During sleep I feel it also. I woke with leg bent at the knee, and it is painful to straighten the leg. Although once awake, I got up and walked normally and even ran slowly. No sharp pains during the run.

The same pain came again the next day. I was hoping the pain would just go away again, but it hasn't.

After 3 weeks with some running, there is no real improvement.

Saw Dr David Velten after 4 weeks. Referral for an MRI.

MRI - vertical and radial tear of the medial meniscus body measuring 0.3 x 1.2 cm.
The doctor was a bit concerned by some missing cartilage on my patella, but was happier when I explained that this was likely due to my patella fracture in 1997, and I have been running on it for 15 years with no issues.

Referall to knee surgeon Mr Andrew McQueen for opion re arthroscopy.

Arthoscope in late August 2012.
No running until late September.
Build up training slowly with no long runs. Some stiffness in the knee after harder runs in October. This seemed to disappear in November.
