Boulder Dash: Red Day 1

eddie

1.
2. Headed for road, but never quite made it. The route ended up being ok though, except I blew it near the end. Ran past small very rocky knoll in swamp, then up reentrant and turned rt. No bag. Turns out, I was att the smaller formline knoll with no rocks on it farther to the W. So bailed to the highest hilltop in the area. It was covered with HUGE rocks, so it "couldn't be the mapped hiltop with no rocks on it!" Sat down and took off shoe and brace and re-seated it, as it was cutting into my ankle. Took maybe 5-6 mins to do this. Then walked NW thinking I was on wrong hill. Greg B. ran by - apparently coming out of #2, which was 30m away. Hit the clear swamp, then came straight back on a beeline. Greg asked later if I saw the stonewall that I must have climbed over on my way to the marsh. Guess not. Certainly saw it and the big boulder on the way back. Learned my mapped-rock lesson the hard way on this control.
3. Saw Erin leave #2, and caught Chris Gross halfway to 3 and paralleled him. Tried to get my head back in the game.
4.
5. Straight out to trail, then contour around hill to top of trail, to top of spur, then down spur past rocks and pond. Took water. Figured everyone was gone by now, then heard footsteps coming in as I was leaving.
6. Careful read straight in.

11. Ran with Karen from #10. We made a little looper back onto the trail we came in on, but across the road she stayed low in the greenery and beat me in.
