Race Evaluation

Rocky Mountain 1000 Day: Stampede

Charlie

1. No real idea what was going on for first half of this leg. Despite early advice, I was pretty confused about why there were five numbers and only four visible circles. Once I got to the rough open I was ok, and navigated fine from there. Lots of people. Line about 8 deep at the punches.
2. Followed.
3. +00:30Checked out #33 on the way. I knew it was wrong, but figured it would come in handy for next loop.
4. Looked for green reentrant, then left of it and saw cliff, then lots of breadcrumbs going in and out. Easy leg.
5. Straight, easy. Behind Steve Gregg, others.
6. Been here before, so pretty easy.
7. Also had seen this one before, so pretty straightforward. Lots of folks around.
8. Green reentrant visible from far off. Behind Penny De Moss, Steve Gregg, others.
9. They all went right around rocks, I went left by the cliff from the first loop and was alone for a bit, except for some first loop runners I was passing.
10. Obviously now, the road was a good route, but I never looked at it. Went more or less straight. Behind Glen Tryson for a bit, then ahead of him. Saw a bit of Mario. Went by the E sand pit, then across the white reentrant. Had a brain lapse and thought I was there already and started looking for a flag, but recovered quickly and knew where I was ok.
11. Up on the spur and stayed with the yellow, Crossed high on the last white reentrant while others were low, and came in from the top. Mario was the only one around then.
12. A bunch of guys went by me going up the slope. Having trouble getting up there. Crossed the green left of line and up the finger of yellow to the top. With Steve G and Glen. Steve leading went down too soon. I knew where it was and led into it. Andrew Childs showed up right behind, and then Ethan.
13. Long slog up, behind the group.
14. Glen, Steve and Andrew went high, Ethan and I low and we got ahead. Followed the line almost exactly, and read the strips of yellow right in.
15. Maybe a little right of line. Crossed two fence lines, which others apparently didnt see. Behind Steve and Ethan, and not able to run with them. Big line going up to the top.
16. Andrew passed, and a couple of other youngish guys. Just trying to hang on.
17. Wanted to break 60, so pushing it a bit here.
F. Nice finish - downhill!
