Race Evaluation

FLO/US Team Fundraiser, Day 3: Blue

jeffw

1. Hit the big depression and saw a control there. Thought it was the little depression NW of my control (the trail between it and my control didn't register in my feeble mind). Found my 12th control and realized what had happened. Punched in after Mike Minium
2. Long leg. Mostly took trails and cut corners where appropriate. Normally the trails are sandy and slow but because of the rains they were firm. The control didn't beep when I "punched" so I pin punched my map.
3. Straight at it ending up a little left of the control.
4. Straight and attacked from the top of the hill.
5. Again mostly straight and attacked from the top of the hill.
6. Straight.
7. Mostly straight. Ran around the big green area, then wasn't sure where I was. Cut over to a trail and eventually figured it out. Saw James Scarborough running in the opposite direction then he flipped a u-turn.
8. Straight.
9. At the end I couldn't see the control, fortunately the palmetto was mapped, so I knew that it was just past it.
10. Ran trails most of he way. Anytime I got close to a pond, I was wading. Was off to the right of the control.
11. Used the green area as an attackpoint.
12. Ran trails most of the way. When I got close, ran around the green areas.
13. Straight
14. Got pulled to the depression by other runners. Punched in and realized it wasn't my control. Lost a little time.
15. Straight. Could see it from 300m away.
16. Straight.
17. Straight.
18. When I had gone to 17, I thought I could see 18 off to my left, so I automatically went there and found out I was wrong. The red course went through this control.
F. Finally brought it home. When Paula and I left the meet site, we saw a turtle crossing the road. He was "running" faster than I was.
