WCOC Five Ponds: Red

Charlie

1. +06:00Difficult areanfor me. I never can tell what's up and what's down here. Passed it on the left, wandered a bit, then out to the trail to relocate and back. Not my best work.
2. Reading well, saw the two rocky knolls, then right in.
3. Through the green, so a little loose for a bit, but saw the west facing small spur before the control and I was ok
4. Straight across the first trail to the second. Logging has diminished the green, so easy enough to get through.
5. Pretty straight, reading the contours near the top well, along the spur right to it.
6. Logged area pretty open, but still slow picking around small slash piles. Minor bobble at the end, climbing wrong knoll, then looking back and seeing the flag.
7. Left of the marsh, through the green, crossing route to 2, reading the spurs with the cliffs, and down the spur.
8. Contouring, but ending up with a slog up the road anyway.
9. Easy
10. Right of the ponds
11. Into the green, trying to count ponds, but a little hard to follow. Seemed like I had gone far enough, but kept going and it looked right when I got there.
12. Along fence line, read contours mostly fine, but reentrant was bigger and flag further down than I expected.
13. Nice leg, very cool control location. Angle to trail, look for a good spot to descend. Look for narrow spot in the marsh with hill on the other side. South tip of hill and in.
14. Along wall and up hill. A little further right than I had intended, but figured it out by the time I was going downhill on the other side. Base of the big hill, up the spur and right in. Another really nice placement.
15. Pretty straight. A little slow climbing through hemlocks up to the trail. Could see thensmall reentrant with the cliff in it developing from a distance.
16. Angle to the trail.
