Race Evaluation

WCOC Wooster Mountain: Red course

PBricker

1. Went left, even though it looked like it would take a bit longer. Just couldn't face going through thorns on the first leg.
2. +02:30Just plain bad orienteering.
3. I subtracted the two minutes I spent looking for my e-punch (so that I would be ahead of Jim). No problem with this leg.
4.
5.
6. +00:30Dropped a bit too low.
7. Trail to the stream and then straight to it over the knoll. Trail around looks about the same (maybe slower for me now since I'm not running fast on trails).
8. +02:30Took trail to deadend and then straight at it. Missed right and got too low. This time the trail around was definitely a better route; had a good attack point.
9.
10.
11. +01:00Bad route, should have gone all the way around and up the reentrant left of line, but I started to climb the reentrant right of line and was committed. Cut south to the top of the reentrant, then back northwest to the boulder.
12. +02:00Bad orienteering when I got close, made worse by the fact that (I think) there is a knoll south of the knoll I wanted that was competely covered by the thick red line of the hand drawn course. Went to that knoll, no flag, and was totally confused. Relocated at the little marsh NW of the correct knoll (apparently walking past the flag without seeing it) and then back to the flag.
13. +04:30Really bad orienteering. Headed up the hillside too early. Did a big loop back to the marsh. Then did it right.
14.
15. On line to bend in trail, then trail around steep hillside.
