Race Evaluation

WCOC Sessions Woods: Red Course

Charlie

1. Trail around to the right angling up the hill from the corner, then down the spur a bit and under the mountain laurel.
2. +01:00Ron Maniscalco ahead of me, but he went a different way and perhaps on a different course. Jim H said the green was passable, but I wasn't interested enough and went on the trail around to the left. Slow going up the hill, and then had to hunt for the right thicket.
3. Straight north, picking up the trail across the road and then up the spur. Had it all the way.
4. Kept rocky hill on my left, which made it easy.
5. On line to the trail, right fork across the spur, on compass, bearing to the right a bit when I saw the stream coming up.
6. Got a little hung up in the green crossing the stream. Otherwise easy. I had seen this control when I was on the memory course, and saw the memory control on the way to this one now.
7. Trail for a while, looking for but not finding the lone trees, then uphill perhaps a bit far, looking for the spur and spur down to the rocks.
8. West until a cross trail, then angling down to the trail headed west. Ran trail to the distinctive knoll NE of control and in. A few folks at or near the control.
9. More or less on compass. Peter Polivka ahead. Crossed the trail and got down close to the marsh, following the edge and looking for the spur with the rocks. No problem. Caught Peter at control.
10. Straight, looking for hill in front of marsh. Saw small cliff after trail and went right of cliff and straight in.
11. On compass, keeping yellow on my left and up and over hill. Had a bit of trouble seeing it, but Peter found it just ahead of me.
12. +00:30SE to trail then behind Peter on trail for a ways until I lost it, then down toward NE corner of marsh and out to N-S trail, down to the road. Road all the way to the trail going to the fence in the clearing, for an easy attack, but missed it low and had to climb a line or two.
13. Went through to much of the open yellow, which was slow, and also feeling pretty tired by now.
F. Trail.
