Race Evaluation

DVOA Batsto: Red

1. P D P R 1
2. P D P R 3 Plan was to be conservative so route was trail to ditch. Not careful enough in looking for ditch or paying attention to trail bends. Left trail at patch of woods to L of trail (thought I was at the patch more directly east of control). Passed over the ditch somehow, missing it. Long bail towards road drifting back, seeing the more clearly defined ditch for easy follow in.
3. P D P R 2 First sense of compass being off; poor direction out of control, somehow wandered east to the trail (wanted to b-line). Ok near the circle, just careful.
4. P D P R 3 Strange route. Went to the trail intersection and down SW quite a bit, then N over the large reentrants. Entered a little low but found it clean.
5. P D P R 2 All good.
6. P D P R 3 Lucky here. Not trusting the compass wanted to use the trail bend. Ended up on a blazed (very) indistinct "trail" parallel to trail. Bearing wasn't lining up, so I bailed hoping to hit the white woods and got very lucky.
7. P D P R 3 Hard bail to trail. Left trail at hilltop. Slow in the area of the control, reading subtle contours.
8. P D P R 1 Very sloppy. Meant to err more SW. Thought about going to intersection of jeep trail and fireditch but was aggressive. I thought I might have been at the (subtle) hilltop but was thinking I'd see it from the trail and didn't look in the woods enough. Ran way too far down the trail; coming back had a good idea that I had been in the area of the control site earlier.
9. P D P R 1 Good. Trail run, but read the features nicely on attack.
10. P D P R 1 Good. Follow the spur.
11. P D P R 1 Good. A little more cautious with plan to leave trail.
12. P D P R 1 Very hesitant on route choice here. Looks like new trail added (not on RG); nice. Up reentrant, followed bike path, over broad reentrant to trail to TI to ditch. Lost a little time near control circle losing the lead in trail.
13. P D P R 1 Took right hand route.
14. P D P R 1 Good. The jeeptrail got a little confusing at one point and ran over to the road. Clem was behind me so I picked up the pace. Good in control circle.
15. P D P R 1 Fine
16. P D P R 1 Short leg. Not fully engaged; was looking in the N reentrant of many intricate contour features.
17. P D P R 1 Fine
