Race Evaluation

Mt. Penn - Pagoda: Red

EWhite

1. Struggle through barberry, past Short-O Blue #1 boulder to control.
2. Bad route choice
Did not follow plan
Bad map reading
+01:30
Intend to run right of line to trail, instead veer L into boulders and greener woods. Eventually stumble out upon trail leading to road well left of straight. Chase Mihai who is on the same leg (blue course). Attack from road when nearest trail junction is visible.

4. Bad route choice
Bad map reading
Hesitated
+00:30
Straight through marsh, instead of smarter path though clearing. Hesitate on far side of ride - no boulders in sight. Eventually move forward - aha!
5. Up ride and attacked from trail crossing, staying L of rock features. Walked some.
6. Did not read control description
+00:20
Handrailed to L of two hilltops. Checked out control in green short of mine.
7. Straight - attack from tiny reentrant near pit.
8. Did not plan ahead
Read map too late
Bad map reading
+01:30
Terrible. W to trail, then across road, cut across slope to trail, then south to small stone wall. Confused despite having been there the day before. Eventually ran south to where everyone else is going and coming from. See Mihai leaving.
9. Across slope and small trail to end of driveway. Cross road and through green to mtn bike trail. Attack from intersection E of control. No navigation problems, but slow, perhaps because of green.
10. Bad compass work
+01:00
Planned to go straight. Veered R of line to fireplaces along 2d trail. Cut through more slow green to small trail, wnet along it, and attacked from boulder cluster due N of control.
11. Did not read control description
Hesitated
+00:15
Trail, then through semi-clearing. Hesitated on other side of knoll from control.
12. Straight downhill to trail above control; attacked from just short of road bend/trail junction.
13. Deer trail to clearing area, then weave through thickets.
14.
15. Bad route choice
+01:30
Up to trail and around. Pass Andras Revesz, who isn't running well. Avoid indistinct trail and take next diagonal trail above it, then lane through green to lower trail. Wrong choice - Andras is almost upon me. Leave trail too early (near depression) and encounter control on spur. Realize error and follow main ditch down, hesitate when I see trail and no control. Climb out of ditch almost atop control.
16. Did not like map
+00:10
Follow old road around lower end of first clearing, and don't encounter traversing trail at other end. Realize old road is unmapped and climb to 2d clearing and on.
17. Bad map reading
Not thinking clearly
+00:20
Get too high and have to drop a contour or two. Andras arrives at control just ahead of me.
18. Bad route choice
Bad map reading
+01:30
Take trail below #17 and then stay high, leaving Andras behind, and attack 18 from above. Climb worse than expected and I miss badly to the L from intersection above #18. Hit trail in time to see Andras, who contoured, go by. Angle up to control once fence in sight, punch behind Andras.
