PT Day 4 Aultnagar to Dingwall
Brilliant route
Lovely minor roads up quiet glens; single track, gravel, tarmac, mud/bog; hard climbs and flowing descents; isolated cottages, some ruined and some not; grand estate houses, some in the back of beyond, some very much fading, and some gone further still.

Coffee at the hub in Ardgay before we’d really started, then into the day proper. All of the above…so good.

So nice to discover parts of Scotland less visited…certainly by me.

PT Day 3
Helmsdale to Aultnagar
Great ride in the sunshine NW up Strath Ullie. Steep climb after the suspension bridge over the river, all the way ip the minor road with great views in all directions before the long run down into Glen Loth.
More A9 into Brora…another the station then lovely minor roads and tracks to and through Golspie. Some lovely woodland here.
Minor road over the hill to Bonar Bridge. Soup at the cafe by the bridge before the run up the main road to the stunning, but faded glory, Carnegie pile of Aultnagar Lodge.
Great route day. Heaps of variety.

PT Day 2 Thurso to Helmsdale.
Headwind and sometimes driving rain on the road west out of Thurso. Great once we turned south.
Really nice tracks through the flow country with cracking views of various lesser peaks as well as Ben Loyal and Morven. No one else about.
Found all about peat after the shakey suspension bridge at Achinavich. AT fell in it, and it was a real messy hike a bike for a couple of k until the last run down into Berriedale…nice cafe. Then the steep climb and braving the A9 to Helmsdale.
Good day.

Pictish Trail Prologue with AT
Straight off the train in Thurso. All road out and back to Dunnet Head. Not very exciting really especially as cloud too low to see much. Couldn’t see Orkney at all except in our imaginations. Still, nice spin out after a 5 hour plus train journey from Inverurie.

Seeing the weather, I was tempted to skip it but...down to Balfour cp, up and over into Glen Cat via col. Home on road. Fairly gentle and actually nice in the rain.
