Note
(rest day)

got back fairly late last night from jircs, didn’t get much sleep, woke up this morning feeling very ill, vision is getting worse and worse, haven’t eaten enough. plan was never to run anyway but yuck. also i think i’m catching the cold everyone else has had. not fun. lots of sleep needed and hopefully i’ll feel better tomorrow.

Running warm up/down 5:23 [2] 0.81 km (6:39 / km) +2m 6:34 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon G235

went into the box like 15 mins early because they told me we were doing a mass start, stood there for ages, then they set us off literally two seconds before the men’s winners finished. spent the rest of the course wondering who actually won
11 AM

Orienteering race 39:33 [4] 5.43 km (7:17 / km) +162m 6:20 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon G235

jircs relay
made it onto a competitive team - north west 2 after yesterday’s miracle! however first leg retired and second leg was out for quite a while so ended up in the mini mass start. actually had such a good run though, didn’t see anyone from the mass start after #3, messed up #5 a little bit on the wrong paths but i knew vaguely where i was the whole time. bit hesitant from #11 - #13, basically just running along the hill looking for controls in depressions. ran straight past #14 and had to run back up the hill to it. i was leading a bit of a train to #16 and i was getting quite scared but i somehow spiked it which i was very proud of. left them behind up the hill to #17 but then could not figure out which hill it was on for so long. also managed to not find the last control for a solid 15s before the east anglia 2nd leg infront of me moved out the way.

managed to come 4th on my leg which i am very happy with! well worth the trip to wales i think

2 PM

Orienteering race 43:26 [4] 6.57 km (6:37 / km) +15m 6:32 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon G235

jircs individual - 4th
fairly happy with this. made a massive mess of #1 but i wasn’t really concentrating, many things going on in my head, none of them about routechoice. ran round in a big circle, back to where i had been and there was the control. then completely fluked #3, literally was just running in vaguely the right direction, went up a hill to try and relocate because i had not got a clue where i was and there was the control!! honestly not entirely sure how that happened but no complaints there. rest of the course was okay, just all a bit scrappy, didn’t spike very many controls and i really was not using my compass as much as i should have been (at all oops). finished thinking i’d done pretty average but downloaded in first which was a nice surprise. nowhere near perfect but honestly i can’t be mad with the result.
3 PM

Running warm up/down 15:42 [2] 2.3 km (6:50 / km) +23m 6:30 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon G235

pollock sprint training
took it pretty easy after yesterday and also pre jircs
did a ‘know your height’ course first, set off at the same time as alex who was so very confident that his route was better until i got there first, then we both proved that we did in fact not know our levels by going all the way down to #2 when the control was on the top. oops. we ended up doing the middle bit together, then after many mistakes by alex and me catching him up again, we took different routes to #7, i stopped for a chat with issy and then was on the wrong level again for #7. i blame issy.
second course was more about route planning, this one went a lot better for me, so much that i left alex behind twice. good fun!!
7 PM

Running warm up/down 10:23 [2] 1.91 km (5:26 / km) +14m 5:15 / km

Running 46:26 [3] 6.51 km (7:08 / km) +304m 5:47 / km
shoes: Inov8 X Talon 230

wednesday not so long run
not my best choice after yesterday’s intervals tbh. died up every single hill, really just not thriving. did not fancy going up the crags as well so went home early and my god i have never been so happy my flat is only up one flight of stairs
