DVOA Proudly Invites You to Two Days of Wonderful Late Autumn Orienteering.

BATONA 500 (formerly Run The Pinelands 2006).

Run the Unique South Jersey Pinelands – November 11th and 12th, 2006.

Day 1: Middle/Classic Distance Event – Batsto, Wharton State Forest, NJ
Day 1: Sprint – Batsto, Wharton State Forest, NJ
Day 2: Classic Distance Event – Pakim Pond, Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, NJ

Maps both days- 1:10 000, with 2.5 meter contours

Online Registration

PRINCIPLE MAPPER: Vladimir Zherdev.
FIELD CHECK: Eric Weyman.

TERRAIN: While much of the Pinelands is flat, thick and wet Pine and Cedar lowlands, the upland forest where most of the orienteering will take place changes to a mix of Pine and Oak. Though not hilly by normal standards, these uplands are high enough to possess small pockets of detailed contour features. Blueberry and similar bushes dominate the ground vegetation, but become shorter and sparser with elevation gain. Unique to the area is an extensive network of fire ditches, some as distinct as trails, some only subtle depressions in the woods

COURSES & AWARDS: Two-day combined-time competition with sprint fundraiser event on Saturday afternoon. The estimated winning times will follow USOF guidelines for classic-length courses. However Saturday’s advanced courses will have flexible winning time (35-60 min.) to allow course setter to design courses that best fit the terrain. It is planned that all men running Green will use the same course, and that women will use a different Green course.

Advanced courses (Red/Blue) will use scoring (point) system in order to combine two days.

Course details are subject to change. Climb will be minimal.

CourseDay 1Day 2

Sprint Course Info

Two sprint courses will be available:
Sprint-A: (1.3km / 10c / 5m) Easy, fast, spectator friendly, and fun.
Sprint-B: (1.75km / 12c / 10m) Advanced level of navigation, still extremely fast, and a lot of good terrain.

Run one, run both, or combine for one non-stop course (with a map exchange).

E-PUNCHING: SportIdent electronic punching will be used on all competitive courses both days. Competitors must either own an e-card or rent one. Replacement cost for losing a rental is $35.

ACCOMODATIONS: There are varieties of lodging options to meet every taste and budget in Atlantic City or just a short drive away in the nearby cities of Absecon, Pleasantville, and/or Hammonton.
