This will be the first event at Bushy Run and first sprint oriented event. Sprints are short orienteering courses that use a lot of trails and open fields. Registration and starts are from 11 am to 2 pm with a members map fee of $4, as usual. However, for the map fee you can go out on two courses. There will be two white/yellow course like sprints of 1.84 and 2.07 km and two orange/green course like sprints of 2.80 and 3.01 km. Come early and do one course; rest a little; and then do a second course. I even have a suggestion on what to do when resting ... see below.

Bushy Run Battlefield is the site of an historic 1763 battle between British troops and various Native American tribesmen. The museum and battlefield grounds are open from 9 am to 5 pm. For the amazing price of $5 ($3 for children), you can tour the museum and get a guided tour of the battlefield. So, come and make a day of it; do some orienteering; learn a little about the Pontiac Wars; and bring a picnic lunch

Driving directions are given below. For more information go to www.wpoc.org

Bushy Run Battlefield is located just east of
Harrison City on route 993. One of the best approaches to it is from Business route 66. For example, from the intersection of routes 66 and 22 at Delmont, take route 66 south for 0.9 miles to exit 12 (the sign will say Business 66 and Last exit before toll road). At the light, turn left and take Business 66 south 1.7 miles to route 993. Turn right and go 3 miles. The entrance to Bushy Run Battlefield will be on the right.

Alternate: From route 30 in Greensburg, take Business 66 north and turn left onto route 993.

Second alternate: From route 22, take Harrison City Rd to downtown Harrison City and turn left at the light onto route 993. Follow route 993 to the battlefield; it will be on your left.
