NEOC is pleased to host the 2014 Troll Cup: a two-day classic A-meet on a new map of Townsend State Forest in northeastern Massachusetts about an hour from Boston. The terrain is technical and challenging New England forest with a mix of wide open runnable forest and intricate vegetation. The Troll Cup is a storied meet going back to the early days of NEOC.

As with many Troll Cups in the past, Day 2 will be a chase start: the leader on each course will start first, and subsequent starters will start after the leader with the same time interval as their time back on Day 1. The 2014 Troll Cup will also feature a Trail-O course at a school campus and in the surrounding woods.

I noticed in the fees that the junior rate applies to those born AFTER 1994. Someone born in 1994 would still be considered 20 and a junior for orienteering. So, is there any chance that the junior rate can be changed so it also applies to those born in 1994? That is, change the wording so the junior rate applies to those born after 1993?

Oops, that's just a website typo. The junior deduction happens on the OUSA registration page, and applies to anyone whose 21st birthday is in 2015 or later. Thanks for drawing attention to that, Carl.

The start of late registration has been postponed to Thursday October 23, as the newsletter to NEOC members goes out on Thursdays. The Trail-O event is in sanctioning and is expected to be a sanctioned race. Trail-O registration will be open on the day of the event.

Some astute and entirely unbiased remarks from an informed observer, October 2012, commenting on the old map:

I was impressed with the map, though I think the rock is undermapped and the vegetation is ourdated, especially in the southern half. However, some terrain in the northern sector is among the best I have run on in all of New England - it was sublime. Coupling the existing map with unmapped areas to the west, the meet could be very successful. James put it well when he remarked that he didn't know why NEOC hadn't used Townsend since 2005.

Yes, don't forget to sign up for this. The northern terrain is quite spectacular. (also from unbiased source).

Just a minor detail - OUSA registration is charging $48 per event on 10/23 - shouldn't that be $38 with the extended deadline?

Oops - thanks for the heads up, Bo. This has been corrected to the regular registration rates. I misinterpreted the EventReg interface. Anyone who registered at the incorrect higher rates will be refunded.

Tried several times to sign Rhonda up. Website seems to hang up after you enter the course info. Can you fix? Or sign her up another way?

Please don't send us paper.
Email Sam Levitin (the registrar) with Rhondas info and classes, and he should be able to put her in.
