Orienteering Ottawa's 2014 fall season officially kicks off with two races within ten hours. The Royal Oak in Kanata is part of a chain of restaurant/pubs of the same name in Ottawa. In what I hope will be the start of a beautiful friendship they are welcoming the orienteering club to locate our parking, registration, start and finish in and near the pub in return we get a chance to renew our rivalries in the Kanata parks and quench our thirsts in the pub.
The Royal Oak is throwing in gift certificates as prizes and giving all orienteers a discount on their food orders.
Twilight and night events on Sept 13th, a regular four course day event on the 14th.
Easy travel to Ottawa on Saturday, return Sunday afternoon. Airfare from cities in the US northeast is less than $400 return.
The terrain is a mixture of urban, urban parks and natural area. The natural areas look a lot like the area for the long and middle at the next month's NAOC, I'm just saying..... They are part of the same geologic formation.
Bonus for anyone who can come earlier or stay later I can GIVE you a map of a newly mapped area that probably looks more like the 2014 NAOC terrain than the NAOC terrain does. (Well that's an exaggeration but you know what I mean.) All you have to do is critique the mapping.
