Have the teams been announced?
Start lists can be found on the official site.
For US, Sam, Alex, and Ali, in that order, and Giacomo, Ethan, and Ross.
For Canada: Emily, Louise, Tori Owen; Will C., Robbie A., Eric Kemp.
MUST PUNCH ALL CHECKPOINTS
Janet, I am a disaster at navigating the WOC website! Do you know what time the races start?
Edit: I really am very tired. Found it!
7 AM EDT women, 8:55 EDT men (sorry, I could have listed this earlier). :-)
Team numbers, if you're watching on TV (I haven't been, just checking live results), are 19 US women, 20 Canadian women, 125 Canadian men, 127 US men. Those of you looking for other countries will have to go to the link above.
Could this be Canada's top relay result with the women tomorrow?
For the Canadian men, 3 men in their prime years, time to move up the standings.
Correction, the US team for the men should be Giacomo, Ethan, Eric.
Women start in 45 minutes. Was all blue sky an hour ago, raining now, who knows this afternoon. Mountain weather.
Why no tv for the first leg?
USA, Canada not tracked GPS?
OK, NOR ahead by 1 min at #5, ahead of SWE, LAT,SUI, DEN, RUS
Some struggling at the forked 4th control by the next bunch. Seems like some got drawn into the wrong one.
Emily Kemp 3:13 or so behind leader
Why no punch from Samantha at #5?
Emily still at position 11 at 2nd radio control; passed GER and was passed by Karia Lajn of POL
Wow, more struggling - Finland in particular went to 9 before 8, then back to 8
Samantha had a very good time radio 1->2.
Still in last place by 2 min but gained some
Go Emily!!!!!8th at radio 3!!!!
Running near GER, RUS, GBR, POL
Looks like Sam found some friends after having fallen back.
Samantha pulls up two positions at Radio #3
She's running near HUN, ITA, SLO
What are the thick white lines with black borders in the north/east part of the map? Sorry, noob question
Not a noob question, it's not often you have a map with trenches from WWI!
Oh duhhh sorry young and stupid, didn't realize :)
@laurenbaade, don't apologize for not knowing something! (
relevant xkcd)
Samantha jumped up a bunch of places to 18
What happened to Emily's finish? 7th at radio 4...but no finish time?
Confused: Emily not showing finish time
Samantha finished 18, nice, pretty awesome run from Radio1 to Finish
Wow, super fast from Sam after the first section.
No TV, pooooooo.
I want to hear Per talk more about cow shit.
Speaking of pooh,
"It's a lot of cowshit there, I promise you."
Thanks, Per.
Louise should be comign trhough arena soon
ndobbs this is the first day the web tv has actually worked well for me. what's wrong with yours?
wait a sec, it's the beginning of the relay! on the web tv.
Yay, Alex - pulling slightly ahead, just through arena.
Now to tackle that 3-min gap ahead of Alex's group
No live TV... bait and switch!
What the.. has anyone else got the 'live' TV, but it is live speaking but video from mid first leg, not live or matching the commentary?
Louise in 10th at radio 3!!
@Fly'n, yeah, same for everyone. Sucks.
Sam on NRK, it's just a delayed broadcast I guess.
Alex punched in position 19 at Radio 3. Still near the group RUS FRA POL
Lizzie running really well!
svt has commentary that matches the pictures - they are going through legs 1 and 2 quickly and will catch up with 'live' sometime in leg 3
yeah, web tv quickly catching up.
tracking cze but not lat? sigh
Way to go Louise! Good luck Tori!
I love relays! So exciting!
well, half a minute behind
USA overtook RUS! Nice, Alex!
Will Tove recover from her mistake on the first loop?
Wow, it's going to be an exciting last loop.
Plenty of teams just ahead for Ali to chase down.
There will be some running together from the three in the lead.
Ooooo, Denmark with a bobble ... all together now?
Ooh, three leading teams all together now with only the unforked bit left! This is gonna hurt!
dave! How's Switzerland?
TV camera shows some insects...
Do the runners know that there is no forking?
The end of the last leg has to be unforked, but they won't know where that starts. They'll probably guess that it's after the arena.
Taking different routes. Cool.
Maja Alm split from the group and taking the (probably) better route alone.
Ah.
I like DEN route left better than SWE SUI.
Edit: but I was wrong it seems
Lizzie went from 20th to 9th!
There's a road up there that is on the printed maps. Wish someone would share a photo from yesterday so we could see exactly where it goes.
More struggling at #8. That was a real bugaboo today.
Looks to be a SUI - DEN head to head sprint ... woah, over before it even started.
No-one went left to 5? Sheep.
25 teams in 21 seconds after 8 minutes... forking...
Sheep. But really fit fast sheep.
Ali punched Radio 4 in 17th, after AUS
China in the 3rd pack? Go China.
IRL and AUS holding hands, in 17/18. Go Nick!!
Fred ran better than last year, looked strong finishing too!
Darren holding off Khramov!
Go Timo! Pasi motoring too!
Darren only 14s ahead of Khramov now!
Still has 4s, go Darren!!!
TG in front already? Amazing.
Darren dropped some time at the end, changed over in 26th... on track for top 25? Come on, Conor!
Here comes my favorite part
The 2nd and 3rd groups are merged, good catch by the larger 3rd group.
That 8-9-10 forking was significant. Can SWE hang on to win?
How many pesos are at stake?
GG only one taking the track route in 2nd group
Surprised no-one has dropped to the road 15-16 (especially someone who thinks they might have to take a risk to break a pack up - or maybe everyone in this race thinks they can outsprint the others?).
Wouldn't want to have to sprint Bostrom in the finish, but Olav seemed happy enough.
Bostrom missed it on his punch technique.
Pol doing better this year... 12th vs 22nd or some such.
It's a shame that they cut coverage while many teams are still out there. They must have records of the countries people come from when they pay for the stream - even just leaving the camera at the finish while people come in would be a nice thing to do. It's totally understand that stv or YLE would finish very soon, but the paid stream should continue.
How's Conor on a sprint finish?
Agh, 1s behind BEL, 27th... should be enough for Div 2 next year. Well done, lads!
It is.
As I've posted on the other thread, Kowalski coming through to 12th means that Poland survive (subject to confirmation) by the narrowest possible margin.
Eric Bone finishes in 28th! Awesome run! When is the last time US men beat Canada in the WOC relay?
Eric, thank you! Beat all you could catch, for more needed just wings :)
Good job by both the USA men's and women's team. Thought it was going to be a very long day when Sam was DFL at the first radio, but she had an amazing rest of her run. And for legs two and three, we were right there with the teams we should be with, but often haven't been in the past.
And good for the men too, especially Ethan's solid run (and punching all the controls -- it's now been enough days since Trento that we can razz him about it… :-) ), and then ditto for Eric, finishing it off very nicely.
I hope and assume we'll see more details on the USA Team Blog, which has been just great this year -- thanks Cristina!
So proud of my team-mates today, both men and women! Updates will come on the blog probably tomorrow. Go Team USA!!
Way to go USA! That was great!
So much fun to watch the action (SVT)! Great race.
We beat Canada in 2011 in France!
