I know there is a live centre that will provide live gps tracking and commentary but does anyone know if this service will provide a video as well?

Or, is there another channel to watch WOC for free like last year?

LiveCenter Passes to watch WOC

per Orienteering Canada: Passes for the WORLD ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONSHIPS LIVE CENTRE are now available. This will get you access to GPS tracks, video, and more... 16.70 euro for the week pass, or you can buy for each race.

Hey Bridget... I'm sure there is generally a way around things for video feed in another language such as yle or svt... my quick check of yle areenas program says that they will be putting the sprint final on... http://arenan.yle.fi/tv/direkt scroll down to see the program on Lördag VM i orienteering (this is yle's page in swedish not finish). Hopefully it will work in Australia... did last year when things were in Finland.

The thing that maybe harder to find is the gps tracking... i could suggest going directly to the gpsseuranta.net website or try this link http://www.tulospalvelu.fi/gps/ They may or may not show up.. I don't really know.. I have heard on the grape vine that there is talk about not charging for the sprint due to possible lack in quality of gps tracks due to building but by the look of the shop they are just making that 1 euro instead of free..

I will be interest to see exactly what comes out of the live service.. though I don't think I will be paying for anything cause I'm too cheap... even if I was at home I probably would just live with yle.

If I work out or hear anymore I will let you know..

Unfortunately that areena-page says "Går att se på i: Finland" which means it can only be watched in Finland.

Ok if yle doesn't want to come to the party it looks like svt might... http://www.svtplay.se/video/2137706/orientering-sp...

Thats the sprint info and under the more info section it says it can be seen world wide

NRK also has WOC coverage (in Norwegian):
http://tv.nrk.no/serie/orientering/MSPO31150114/05...

Usually you can't watch the live broadcasts from outside of Norway but it may be possible to watch from abroad after the fact.

Does Hola plugin work for any of those countries? I will be waiting to see how others find the paid service before shelling out this year.

In case SVT or NRK won't work abroad I could share a workaround for Areena. And that is with better picture qual. (1280x720). I guess it's a bit shady way but it can be easily found with Finnish search words in google so I don't see any harm.

I realize that orienteers care about getting a good value, and that 17 euros is a lot of money for some -- but compared to other entertaining things we pay for (movie, dinner, ...) it seems pretty good value, and I like the idea of supporting internet coverage of orienteering events. I'm sure it costs money to produce the coverage, and by supporting it, don't we also contribute to its improvement (and existence) over time?

Oh I am going to buy the live centre stuff but if they do not have a video, I need alternatives :)

If you read the other post on the IOF website 'Test IOF LiveCenter' it states (near the bottom of page) that 'Most likely web-TV will also be provided with arena speaker.'

I have bought the live stuff for the last 3 (?) years I think, and last year it barely worked at all. I think I paid in for Norway, and that coverage was excellent. I am happy to pay for a product that is worth it. Not really happy to pay another year for very little. Whoever did the Norwegian WOC should have just been commissioned to keep on doing it.

I am happy to pay for a quality service, but the words "test" and "most likely Web-TV" do not give me a lot of confidence. Let's hope that it works well.

Yeah it probably doesn't instill much confidence in people.

Pretty much from what I know is that they are going to be putting the gps tracking behind a paywall this year. They have tested the new live center a fair bit throughout the last 8 or so months(you can replay some of the old events (ski orienteering and wc races Norway/finland). So what is going to be new is the pay wall service. This, like the tracking is being handled by traxmeet so should work well. Plus you can choose to use the new system or the old one.

With the tv I don't know much about that yet. I do know that the plan is to eventually have it all viewable in the one browser window but that is not ready quite 100% stable yet so they have removed that feature for the world champs.

Overall I'm pretty sure it will work as they intend it to but they definitely don't sound confident which is going to probably mean a slow take up of the services over the course of the week.

Just bought a pass for the week, we'll see how well it works. I'll be sure to report back here. :-)

FYI, purchasing didn't work for me with my US cards, I think they lacked compatible security checking. Worked with a Norwegian card with BankID, and I see that PayPal is also an option.

I've always had to use my UK card I think for the last few years. Would really like to hear how the service is Cristina, thanks for taking the plunge!

Just bought a pass too. Looking forward to it! The price seems totally reasonable for a week of races.

As long as you actually get a feed!

So will there be a live feed for he sprint qual? I can't find anything about that.

Not from the pass, hoping there will at least be live progress results.
PayPal is very easy, I keep a small balance there for just these sort of international purchases.

Don't know if this makes a difference to anyone but when I bought the week pass, it was 13.47 Euros. The website said it would be 16.7 Euros---odd

Living in US. Finally shelled out for a paid proxy ($6.month or $49/year). Ahhhh, right now I feel like the first time I connected to the internet... All streaming to my laptop.... BBC Live, Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, the Finnish and Norwegian tv stations above. Oh the joy :)

Acceptace of Paypal would pretty much eliminate the problem with US credit cards, would it not?

sprint relay tonight. 1:30am for AEST and 1am for us South Australians.

I am predicting that the winners will win by seconds after the 4 legs are done, but I could be wrong and the winners may win by minutes.

Good write up in Orienteering Australia page

Look at bulliten 4 on the woc website. But it's pretty much in the square.
