What the taxonomic distinction between them and submorons? Is it merely a regional thing, e.g. the Northern Loser Dirtbag is also referred to the Common Submoron?

At the risk of sounding really judgmental...

I assume the Laramie-area sub-morons are typical rednecks.

The Nederland-area dirtbags are hippie / Rainbow Family types, aka the "lifestyle homeless" that have overrun Boulder in recent years.

I have a live-and-let-live attitude about those people, until they leave their piles of garbage in the national forest and city parks.

Ah, yes, there is in fact a distinction. Among other things, the ones at Observatory are presumably less likely to be armed than the ones Mikell writes about up in Laramie.

Burning Man seems like something that it might be interesting to experience. From when I've heard, it's a well organized event. The Rainbow Gathering, in contrast, is something I wouldn't get within a hundred miles of if I could avoid it, unless I was trying to contract cholera. And this is the opinion of somebody who has a reputation as a hippie. There's more than one way to be irresponsible.
