is open! Please post info about this to local club mailing lists if you're in the northeast (or within a reasonable for this prestigious event); publicity has not been my strong point.

So far, the average age of registrants is 74.

NEOC#1:
Excellent! To keep that average up, we need more mature people to register.

Just do it!

Charlie:
Average age is falling fast, although still 60 or so as of when I signed up. A couple of notes.

The registration page invites only runners between 10 and 90. What's that all about? I seem to recall in a past year we had a 9 year old finisher.

The BG was also on my birthday in '86 at Mt Tom. Don't recall whether that happened again in the interim, although I'm sure the records exist to find out.

jjcote:
Yes, Luke Lyons was 9 years old. I'll get that fixed.

This is in fact only the second time (in 36 years) that the Billygoat has fallen on your birthday. (It has never fallen on my birthday, but I believe the Traverse has.)

I was thinking of Izzy. Wasn't she 9?
Apr 4, 2014 11:41 PM #
jjcote:
Izzy was 10 as we traditionally calculate these things (and as the form would be concerned), although her birthday was still a couple of months off. Luke had turned 9 only 8 days before the event.

Wyatt:
I think Luke was 8.

I'm trying to get a kid (Mayland, from DVOA, who regularly follows his parents around on Red), who's a few days younger than that on May 11th, to sign up...

Oh, whoops, I read the chart wrong. Right, he was approaching his 9th birthday. And the form has been updated.

By the way, if there's anybody who won't be able to make it, but who would like to vet for me ahead of time, let me know.

cmorse:
I can come vet the course if you like. Can't make the goat due to scout committment.

Great event! If possible, please avoid having it on Mothers Day next time.
May 12, 2014 7:43 PM #
Charlie:
Mothers day is more or less traditional for the 'goat.
May 12, 2014 9:18 PM #
Bernard:
Could be time for a new tradition

I know I'm in the minority, seeing as how I was one of just a couple of mothers running the full B'goat, but I like having it on Mother's Day. Because it's a day for me and that's how I like to spend it.
I'd be fine if it were on a different day, too.
May 13, 2014 12:41 AM #
jjcote:
In the 36 year history of the Billygoat, it has been on Mother's Day seven times: 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 2006, 2009, and 2014.

Has it ever been held on a Saturday?

Once: 2002, at Blue Mountain.

So many choices of which control to leave out!
What were the most popular skips?

Sure looks like #1 was easily the best skip!
May 13, 2014 12:35 PM #
jjcote:
The top five finishers all chose different skips. #1 certainly comes out best by the numbers, but tactically... it doesn't seem to have done Ian much good, as it put him out in front by himself to blow his entire lead on #10. Skipping #11 was better then I expected. I had considered moving #2 somewhat to the SW to make skipping #1 less appealing, but eventually decided it was fine, because enough people would probably be reluctant to skip so early.

Routegadget is up.
May 13, 2014 3:22 PM #
GuyO:
Would the benefit to skipping #11 be to enable a route along the (active?) railroad tracks?
May 13, 2014 4:39 PM #
JanetT:
Yes.
May 13, 2014 4:56 PM #
GlenT:
We were told beforehand not to run on the (active) tracks but that there was substantial area alongside the tracks to run on.
