Were there any WRE events in the US in 2013? If so, what events?
Apparently not. The last foot-o ones were NAOC in Oct 2012

They died a natural death. Insufficient customer base. Don't bother the dead.
They rise from the dead this fall with two days at US S/M/L Champs and three days at NAOC.
Two of the races at the Canadian Championships in Whistler in August are WREs.
Yeah there are like 7 in North America this year! Way more than in the UK lucky people!
There's also a WRE middle @ Western Canadian OC.
Why not make the short trip over to Western Australia and run the WRE events at the Australian Championships Carnival in Sept-Oct as well? Then you can hit double figures :)

Geez Fletch you beat me to it, although there are only two at our Karnival (middle and long).
Three - Aust sprint champs as well.
Presumably there are more WREs in North America this year than usual because regional championships are automatically designated WREs by IOF.
Oops, think I confused it with the Aus MTBO champs, where the sprint isn't a WRE.
Having discovered that an around-the-world ticket is the most efficient way of doing all the things I want to do in South America around and after WMOC, I'll probably be taking in NAOC "on the way" (very loosely speaking) from Western Australia to Brazil. Doubt if too many others will be doing this combination though.
How badly do you want my company? I'm already in WA so it'll save you the ticket cost of flying me here first... just a return airfare to Brazil would be nice.
@Acampbell
That would be because North America has two countries. UK was only allowed 3, two at the JK and one at
Race the Castles. Until I asked nicely and IOF gave us
another one at Balmoral . I've asked for a fifth in Stirling...
North America is a continent. It consists of many countries, including but not limited to, the United States and Canada.
We could have so many WRE's if we split the US into 50 separate countries.
I've never understood this limit of 3 WRE per country. If you are going to impose a limit it should be based on population, area, or some combination thereof. It makes no sense that there are 6 WREs per year across all of North America and yet something like 60+ across Europe. Granted the orienteering population is much larger in Europe but half the time if I want to get to a WRE I have to travel all the way across the continent. Just one part of what doesn't work with the existing World Ranking System.
I've never understood this limit of 3 runners in the WOC per country...
I understand the limit of 3 runners per country at WOC
UK is a kingdom. It consists of many countries, including but not limited to, Wales and Scotland.
These are the only two relevant ones, since other UK countries aren't staging any WREs.
And what do you know T/D, they're changing that limit ;)
Those kind of limits are tradition across all sports. Maybe there's a better way to allocate athletes to the World Champs but I'm not sure what it might be.
On the other hand it would be so easy to change the allocation system for WREs which would allow more North Americans more access to WREs. Whether or not anyone actually cares is another debate.
@Graeme - we've made a real Scot of you!
MTBWOC allows six representatives per country so the Europeans take up all the spots of poorer countries, like Australia and the United Kingdom (just one country each).
@jcampbell - Playing the true braveheart.
@tRicky - Just like that Australian bloke in the film.
