Discussion: tRicky & BB's splits

There are some hefty differences between each of your splits for particular controls - was that simply route choice or did you have 'bad patches' here and there so that the other rider had an apparently better run of CPs?

Fair enough BB fatiguing to the end, but there's a run of 4 or 5 controls early on where BB is clearly ahead each time?

Did not like the course, hopefully Wellington Dam would have better flow..

Tooms, delayed response but I can give you a break down:
3-4 - I didn't see the straightest route hidden under the pink line plus rode straight past the CP thinking it wasn't mine
4-5 - got stuck at the road crossing for several cars
5-6-7 - tricky short legs that I tried and failed to get right (stopping to check map costs you on short legs if the other person nails it)
7-8 - was concerned on a previous outing on the clarity of the single track on this leg so took it easy but also found it easily
10-11 - BB took the city route whereas I took the shorter but (possibly) slower track route; I also stopped short of the CP to investigate what I thought was a track but wasn't
16-17 - missed the indistinct track junction and overshot by about 80m
17-18 - turned one track early off the road (they were not easy to see)

Add to that the fact my Achilles was pretty sore for a lot of it and I hadn't even been on the bike for a couple of weeks so I couldn't go as hard as I would have liked.

From BB's perspective - 12-13 and 15-16 were uphill legs so perhaps he didn't have the drive that I did :P (I walked the steep bits on both of those).

Ori - Wellington Dam is nothing like Banyowla, except it is a bit hilly in places but you can ride all the hills if you grind away. The tracks are much firmer since they need to get logging trucks along them although some have not been used in a while so are overgrown although still easy to find (just look for the differing heights in pine tree lots to know where a track is coming up).
