Yup. Really. Even more than I remembered, every third step was a faceplant (often in a water-filled ditch). It was all horribly vague, too - really, a hard O forest. Not sure I'll bother going back, like, ever!
Well done for sticking it out. I canned an age at #1 (I always have a spectacular blow-out after club training, all of that extra knowledge must blow my mind) by doing a 180, heading left off the track instead of right, and failing to work it out for 20 mins. 26 minutes and 2.2km for a 250m control... sigh. That also meant I didn't have enough time to complete my course and get back in time for Beccy to start, so I had to cut out a loop. Sigh!

bloody el.. whats wrong with a bit of rough, why all the whining, to me thats what really separates hill running/XC from orienteering. Maybe it's just me and what the wild north east does to you but I've always enjoyed 3D running and I'm sure JD and big jon will back me up on that.

Yeah, you defo need to be a sheep shagger to like that sort of stuff, chasing over muckle peat & heather bogs after those woolly mamas :-P

Fair point Oleg, and do agree that orienteering's all about variety and taking on whatever terrain faces you, the rough & not so rough. Folk will have their preferences. Devilla's a funny place, it's relatively local to me but I've only walked there a couple of times and never particularly fancied running there (much rather run in Beecraigs or up the Ochils!). Probably due to the lack of any significant contours and the grid path system, though I do remember a few nicer bits towards the western edge. Anyhow, bottom line is that if you perform well in an area, you'll generally like the area, so only myself to blame on the front! And Brad, I spent 3 year in Peterhead (the very wild north east!) and all my family holidays on Deeside, though it didn't do my heather bounding abilities much good! ;-)
