Online Registration is now open for the 2014 U.S. Interscholastic Championships and Flying Pig "A" Meet on April 4 to 6. Please join us.

Orienteering Cincinnati is delighted to announce the debut of Event Reg 4, the new generation of event registration. You will find some things a little different from previous versions of event reg. Most notably, Orienteering USA members may link directly to Orienteering USA's database to auto-fill most of your personal information. You may also elect to fill in your data manually as in the past.

Please register as soon as possible. Late fees are scheduled to begin just a week from now. While we will probably extend that deadline a little bit, we will need to order t-shirts based on the numbers we have as of next weekend. So waiting will reduce your chances of getting a shirt (or at least your optimal size).

We have some great extras this year. Please don't pass up the Saturday evening dinner. It is just $7 for youth age 20 and under and will include a full, fun evening with activities and games, live music, and more. The school locker rooms will also be open for you to clean up from your run.

And, on Friday night, we are offering tickets to see the new movie Divergent for just $5. Where can you see a movie these days for $5? Only in Oxford! Don't miss this one.

The OUSA Junior Team will also be offering sandwiches for lunch each day at the event site. You can pre-order ham, turkey, or vegetarian sandwiches when you register, and support OUSA juniors.

Please let us know if you have any problems using the new system or any questions. It has been a long struggle of testing and revising to get this new system operational, but we think you'll like it.

Have to say, that was pretty easy and convenient. Kudos to the Event Reg development team/person.

A wealth of gratitude needs to go to EventReg developer Kent Shaw for the heroic amounts of time and effort that went into version 4.0. He actually started work on it a year ago, but since December he has been working closely with Mike and me to correct glitches as well as add enhancements.

The Interscholastic Champs is, by far, the most complex, single US orienteering event from a registration perspective. We were also determined to make sure it worked for older browsers, like IE8. Admittedly, there were a few times when we came close to throwing in the towel and falling back to version 3.0 -- the current version in use for all other upcoming events with registrations open. Fortunately, we forged ahead, and are quite proud of the result.

All that said, with x-thousand lines of code, there are bound to be some glitches still buried in EventReg 4.0. Anybody who finds any -- incluiding seemingly trivial ones -- are encouraged to describe them in an e-mail to FlyingPigRegistrar@gmail.com, for us to pass along.

Email sent - not sure if it was the registration, or bad info in the OUSA database, or both, but not as easy as I was hoping. Somehow, our membership renewal through 2015 shows under "My Membership," but the registration form told us it expired in 2014. Only my husband's epunch/membership number pulled from the database; I had to add myself and my daughter manually.

Finally, for those of us registering multiple people, should we do a PayPal transaction for each individual? I thought the total would reflect all three of us, but I only got my total when I went to PayPal at the end of entering all our info. I still owe you money.

Registration frustrations aside, we're really looking forward to the Flying Pig!

You should be able to do a transaction for your whole group. Guy and Kent will see if they can figure out what happened.

Coordinatiion with the OUSA database has definitely been one of the biggest challenges. Thanks for the feedback. I am sure we will continue to find a few other glitches.

Kent has completed a couple fixes which should solve the multiple entry problems. Please let us know if any of you experience any other problems.

Here is the List of who is registered.

Reminder, enter by this weekend to guarantee t-shirt size.

The OUSA database was not providing correct expiration / renewal dates for some people. For the moment, we have suspended the automatic checking of renewal dates. So you won't immediately get a prompt if your membership is expired or will expire before the races. But, never fear, Guy will certainly check and let you know if you need to renew.

are course lengths listed somewhere? first start on friday?
Mar 6, 2014 1:43 AM #
mikeminium:
Friday starts are 2 to 4:30. We will also be flexible for late arrivals. Lengths are not final yet, but the format is middle (Fri), long (Sat), middle (Sun).

Joe:
is that ET Mike?
Mar 6, 2014 4:05 PM #
mikeminium:
Yes. I think Sundays "middle" courses might run a few minutes long. But expected times should give you a reasonable approximation.

Oh, I'm re-reading, and guessing Joe remembers the days when Indiana didn't switch to daylight savings time creating an hour difference between events on the Indiana side and lodging on the Ohio side. Most of Indiana (including everywhere within 150 miles of the event sites) is Eastern Time zone (ET) and recognizes daylight savings. I originally thought your ET comment referred to Expected winning Time (EWT).

Joe, were you at one of our OH / IN meets that was on the time change weekend... which really made it confusing? Ohio and Indiana on the same time Saturday, an hour different on Sunday. Glad we don't have to deal with that anymore!

I think Joe was just making fun of GuyO.

Entry without late fee has been extended at least until March 12. We really appreciate your help in registering as soon as possible. And a reminder that the t shirt order still needs to go in Monday, so be sure to lock in your size!

I think I successfully registered but have been unable to pay.

When I attempt to "PayPal: If you have not already paid online, but wish to do so please visit https://www.orienteeringusa.org/eventregister/a40/...1"

it just takes me back to the Registration Confirmation page.

Am I registered?
Mar 11, 2014 7:07 AM #
GuyO:
You are registered.

BTW, that link goes to a page that looks like your confirmation e-mail.

JanetT:
For me, that link brings up the checkout page for j-man with a button/link for Paypal.

If clicking the button doesn't take you to the Paypal website, Kent may need to investigate further.

j-man:
Wow, now on a different computer, it seems to work fine. Thanks for pointing that out. Last night, I just kept getting back to the same place.

We were having some problems with confirmation emails going out. Possibly Kent was working on that problem. Making changes to a "live" site is always tricky. Please let us know of any further problems.

Dinner announcement - Our cook is working on a gluten free option for those who need it. Please indicate in the comments portion of your registration if you need a gluten free meal.

The pasta dinner will of course have meat and meatless choices.

The problem must have been fixed before Janet & j-man tried the link.

"Entry without late fee has been extended at least until March 12"

has this been extended further?
Mar 15, 2014 12:06 AM #
mikeminium:
Yes, you can still enter without a late fee. At least through Sunday night.
