Bash:
You've got until Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 11:59 p.m. to join the fun at this Saturday's Salomon Snowshoe Raid at Blue Mountain. Teams of two will use a map and compass as they travel on and off-trail to checkpoints located throughout The Blue Mountains' stunning forests and parklands. You can go as hard or as easy as you like, and the more checkpoints you collect within the 3-hour time limit, the higher you'll rank.

Wondering about the rain last weekend? Here's the latest word from Race Director Bob Miller, who lives a few minutes from the race course:

"Snow Conditions Update. See the video and pictures from the event site posted last week on our Facebook page. Since those were taken, we received another 30 cm of snow! Needless to say it was super-deep (probably the deepest I've seen it in over 6 years) and while testing in the forest last Friday, it was really tough (read slow) traveling off-trail.

"However, after this Saturday's thaw and rain, the snowpack consolidated. I'm guessing the snowpack dropped from 3-4 ft down to 2-3 ft, so yes, there is still a lot of snow on the ground! While setting some checkpoints yesterday (Sunday) I was still dropping a foot or more on most steps off-trail while using snowshoes. With the warmer weather today followed by the forecasted freeze-up later this week, I expect using snowshoes will be very beneficial on Saturday. The best case scenario would be a hard crust we could travel on top of; at least that's what I'm hoping will be the case when I place the checkpoint flags and timing units on Thursday and Friday. I'll provide more details to registrants later this week."
