Yawn

Downfall-based parodies are primitive cliche.
Besides, presenting position of your opponent as Hitler's is such a fine taste.

cii00me9:
"...presenting position of your opponent as Hitler's..." I think you got that one wrong. Here Hitler is the conservative who defends "real" tough orienteering against Sprint and other more or less stupid IOF inventions of recent years, and I am pretty sure the author of the parody is on the dictator's side on this one (although the arguments, of course, are exaggerated in the parody).

tend to thrive on american soil, somehow, with a twist. Aren't they? Things like 5 nano-races per day, control placing on the N.W. corner of W.C. (NAOC 2012), etc.

yurets> Are you trying to say that all Americans like everything new that the IOF comes up with (e.g. no WOC qualifiers) or that it's necessarily a bad idea to criticize those in power through parody?

I'm not a big fan of sprint (although I handle it better than the dictator in the parody) but I don't think we need to get into that debate here.

I thought it was very funny, though I like the broadening of orienteering.

The technique may be used to poke fun at anything. Google "make your own Hitler video".

Well, I sort of see the plot of the clip. Yet I am concerned. Here is why. General American public is brain-dead lemmings, and decades of manipulative political advertising produced the result: anything voiced by “bad dictator", Hitler, Saddam Hussain, etc. would subconsciously perceived as “alien”, “non-American”. Likewise, to promote something, you need to have a “democratic” American hero, say John McCain, someone who people can easily relate to, say:
“We need more cool stuff, more team-based activities, more super-sprints, more hood-hunts, more ghetto runs, corn-field fun, zombie runs, etc…”
This is how it works here.

Yes, but in this situation AP is saved by the significant proportion of members from other countries that have a better developed culture of irony. I suspect that most of the rest of us laughed, whether we love or hate sprint orienteering.

Brilliant! Brought tears to my eyes, just what I needed on a very stressful Monday morning.

I'm not sure which was funnier, the posted video (better than most videos using the same clip) or yurets' fantastic generalizations about Americans, aka brain-dead lemmings.

Lemmings jumping off a cliff was a Walt Disney invention?

Did the lemmings fall, or were they pushed? What did Disney know? and when did he know it?

Oh good Lord - the (Hitler) video is funny, will be appreciated -and seen - by orienteers only (not the alleged [is] brain-dead American public. Thanks for posting Mattias. "Don't be afraid, we always form one big pack" is my favorite line.

I like the Hitler video. I think this is the third 'translation' I've seen in the last 4-5 years- all on different subjects. Perhaps because I relate more to it this one seems to be the most clever.
If I were still a member of the IOF should I be offended? No. Everyone is still entitled to an opinion. This parody creator has well expressed his opinion but I don't think we have to worry too much about it swaying the opinion of the orienteering public. I would love to see a parody put together where Hitler rails against the idea that people should go in to the woods at timed intervals armed only with a map and compass.
Does anyone know where the film clip originated?

I'm an American and I don't eat eggs. How did I get dragged into this?

I confess that I love myself a good sprint event served sunny-side up. However, I liked the video and generally, more or less, sympathize with the position.

For what it's worth, most of the "IOF" people of my acquaintance thought it was funny too (whether or not they agreed with the sentiments of its creator).

Hitler is evil and should be killed immediately. I'm putting together a taskforce to raid his lair and take him out. Who's with me?

I thought it was funny and thank-you to the person/people that took the time to make it.

Just cough on him tRicky, or kiss him, that should kill him pretty effectively from the tone of your log.

Yes. Yes you are. I'm surprised you hadn't already been notified about this. Nobody gets out of this alive.

I hear there's a community of YouTube users called "unter-ogangers" devoted to the practice of making orienteering videos. I'm waiting for "Orienteering Gangnam Style"

My grandfather spent many hours listening to Hitlers speeches, now I can see why.
Why do I agree with this guy. ????

@gruver: No "Gangnam Style" at the moment, but some others can be found:

Yes, I like the video. "Hitler geht immer", as we say in Germany ...
But netherless I also like the remarks of yurets, who propose to think it otherwise round as it may seem for the first sight. Not the cool one who is laughing is with hitler, but the opposite.
I normally do like the "words" of hitler on stamina and the lonesone fight in the endless forest. But the author of the video seems to delegitimize these words beyond his intention. Because the connection to nazi thoughts are unmissable.

Hitler changes his mind

With sincere apologies to Big Jon, who despite Hitler's opinion is one of our best O mappers ISOM or ISSOM, and slightly less sincere apologies to Graeme who is a crazy loon...

Swampfox:
Poor Graeme. He doesn't come out of this looking good at all. Once it gets out that you have been involved in the production of sprint orienteering maps, your reputation is irretrievably ruined. We have seen this play out again and again. He may have to flee and seek an obscure refuge where hopefully the outraged orienteering public won't think to look, perhaps out on some wind blasted, sage infested scrubland far, far away...

Remarkable!? (one punctuation mark each)

As Race the Castles supremo I'm wondering just who is Hitler in this scenario? I'm not sure I ever saw the two of us together at the same time...
