Any info as to whether the course will be friendly or unfriendly?

The course is as friendly as you make it. There are lots of rocks, uphills and downhills.
Then again, I have just started working on the course design.........who knows what may come out in the end.
Besides the course though, there will be lots of friendly folks, good food, yummy prizes, and a special greeter at the food control.
