Evalin B:
If there is anyone considering to register, I have 2 extra entries to sell for all 3 days. We registered but my parents can't make it.

Two adult entries for all three races?

Joe:
I believe her parents are adults.

This will be something new for orienteering in North America- reselling race bibs.
Do the organizers have a policy on this? Many running events in Canada do not allow bib transfers.

If you have a cap, you should also have a waitlist.

Entries are transferable (in the same price category) as long as we have fair notice (Sept 15).

Dontgetlost/GHO has a lot of experience with selling out races and programs. :-)

For example, the Salomon Raid the Hammer race has sold out at our 300 participant limit each of the last four years. We have also sold out all seven sessions of our Adventure Running Kids program in Hamilton as well as several sessions in Burlington, K-W and Niagara (and earlier this week in Oakville as well). In all of these cases we develop a waitlist and are doing the same for the 2013 Nationals.

We are pretty excited about the high level of interest for this race. Interestingly at last year's race in Edmonton I was spending a lot of time defending our decision to host Nationals this year in the autumn. :-)

Are the Raid and ARK limits also set for environmental reasons?
Sep 3, 2013 1:13 AM #
Hammer:
Yes the Salomon Raid the Hammer limit is also set for environmental reasons.

ARK limits are usually set with making sure we have enough parking and our preferred athlete to coach ratio. On a related note I plan to give a talk at Nationals on "How GHO built ARK!" so I'll try to explain how limits are set among other things then.

Evalin, I am looking for two entries to the Middle only, for myself and my son who is a junior. What is the status of you entries?
Sep 5, 2013 5:12 PM #
Joe:
status is they are still available. We would prefer to transfer entry for all three races and not get stuck holding them. There is the option to get a 'full' refund before next week minus $10 fee for processing? I have to check the exact details. Perhaps the registrar is out there following this thread. Sorry, I don't know who that is.

It's 'Bash', I think.

@Joe:
Sorry you can't make it. We haven't had luck with you racing in GHO events this year. :-(

Anyway, Bash is on a running holiday in the Alps this week (read her thread for her most recent awesome adventure) but the email on the website will go to Dana Ferguson instead so you can email her for the deets.

Amazing, a black market for orienteering starts! Never thought that would happen...

I've got wifi now but maybe not later! If it gets complicated, Joe may want to just take the hit for $10. If someone is willing to buy Joe's entry from him exactly as it is (i.e. 2 adults, same races), we could type in new names and contact info, change categories, etc. for an entry that is already in the database. He could also sell the two entries to two different adults - same amount of work for us. It is also possible for the purchaser to add items that Joe may not have bought since the entry form is designed for incremental additions. What is not possible is buying a piece of the entry, e.g. one person buying the Middle and another person buying the Long. The registrar wants to be accommodating but eventually she gets grumpy. ;)

We are an adult and a jr, and we already are in the long, and will not be doing the sprint, so really are only interested in the middle. But don't know what the cost will be.

Bash:
Your best bet is to write nationals-registrar@dontgetlost.ca to get added to the Middle waiting list then. By the way, juniors up to M/W14 can still sign up for the Middle since they don't spend much time off-trail so the environmental restrictions do not apply to their courses.

Thanks Bash. We have been added to the Middle wait list. My Jr is 15 running M-20
