Please put the Harriman Orienteering Festival on your calendars for November 1-3, 2013!

The Harriman orienteering festival is an event designed to bring the orienteering community and clubs together for a fun event. It will be a three day event full of races and activities designed to create an environment that brings kids and adults together and gets them out in the woods. The juniors in the sport of orienteering will help to put this event on as a fundraiser for their program and learn in the process what goes into putting a meet on. The competitions are designed to bring the community together in a series of individual and group challenges that focus on fun, developing skill, and sharing that with friends. We are hoping to create a fun festive environment around the camp that builds up the excitement of the event and shows people how awesome orienteering can be, and fosters the youth into the sport in a fun healthy way building a lifetime enjoyment of the sport.

We are planning on using the same arena for all three events. We are planning to have food, games, and challenges as part of this event to build up the atmosphere of the whole race. The goal of the arena is that people meet, hang out get to know each other, and make lifelong friends while enjoying some fun races and being in the beautiful outdoors.

Schedule:
  • Sat-Sun, Oct 26-27, National Junior Training Weekend. Clubs around the USA are asked to hold training events.
  • Mon-Fri, Oct 28-Nov 1, DIY training in Harriman. Junior Team Coach Erin Schirm has prepared fun and challenging exercises. You will get maps and the woods will be streamered. Coordinate your training on AttackPoint!
  • Fri Nov 1. Qualifier and Final sprints. Fun arena atmosphere.
  • Sat Nov 2. Relay. Teams compete for their club. Arena activities and food all day long for all ages.
