Discussion: Should 24hr be added to Cleman Mtn 8 & 4-hr on Oct 5?

The original plan for this year's rogaine on Cleman Mountain (October 5, near Naches, WA) was to host an 8 and 4 hour. Last year MerGeo hosted a 24-hour at this location for the North American Rogaining Championships. However, 24-hour events take a bit of extra effort to put on and folks seem to like the day-long events, in the 8-ish-hour range. So the 24-hour was cut for 2013.

BUT! This upcoming 2014 WORLD Rogaining Championships are in the USA! In the Black Hills of SD!

BUT! Entrants must have participated in a 24-hour event within the last 2 years!

Has this World Champ requirement created increased interest in 24-hour events this year? Should MerGeo add a 24-hour event to the Cleman event?

We took a temperature check on Facebook and did not get much response. Perhaps the local community is not interested in it, but if you are from outside of the Pacific Northwest-- would you travel to this race on Oct 5 to participate in the 24-hour?

Let us know!

Thanks!

Is it really a requirement to have done a 24hr rogaine before competing in the World Champs or is that just a US thing?

It's a requirement, yes. One team member needs to have completed a 24-hour rogaine within 2 years of when registration opens.

Well the last three I've attempted we've had one team member pull out due to injury partway around, would I still qualify?

I'd likely go if I can find a partner for the weekend. My wife unfortunately has an existing speaking engagement that would conflict, so I'm starting to look around for possibilities. I'm not particularly short on rogaines in the last two years, but it was certainly a really fun area when I was out there for last year's race! When would the addition of a 24-hour category get announced in a definite way?

Right now it seems that we will not be adding the 24-hour. Interest has been very limited- unfortunately, probably because not many folks seem to know about the 24-hr-in-the-last-2-years requirement for World Champs.

We WILL be adding a morning training clinic! Great for those doing the afternoon-start 4-hour event.

Will you be adding a bike option?!

Hey, sorry I never got back to you on that! I did talk to Eric about it-- he thinks it's just too chunky monkey out there. (He didn't say the monkey part, but I like the added effect.)

It does have me thinking about good mtb-o venues though...
