Cool!! A Qbrick streaming question for anyone... How does Qbrick decide when to send occasional snapshots vs. stream video? Does it base it on the client's download speed or does everyone see the same thing regradless of connection speed? For instance, I received Simone, Holger & Thierry's finish (and most others too) in snapshot mode but other parts of the race were streamed. This seemed a bit arbitrary and was annoying for watching both Champs Meeting and Tiomila. The audio streamed the whole time so I know it was not a problem on my end. More simply, did anyone see those three finish the Champs Meeting in streaming mode over Qbrick or was it just a series of snapshots of them? Thanks!!
For Tiomila's streaming, I had trouble unless my connection could support a bitrate of 331kb/sec. I tried two older computers with wifi adapters, and the video would repeatedly stream and then freeze while it buffered, and it was annoying. I tried a really old computer with an ethernet line to the cable modem, and it worked fine, but I couldn't use the computer for anything else. Then I tried a new laptop with built-in wifi, and it was great. Full screen, reasonably clear video. The weird thing was after daylight, and more and more Europeans woke up (I imagine), the video got more and more pixelated, but my streaming was still at 331kb/sec. I assumed QBrick was trying to reduce the bitrate, but it seemed like they lowered the video bitrate and didn't lower the streaming bitrate, which was probably why the quality was so bad. (I may be wrong here---the bad video could have been an antenna problem at the remote site.)
I thought it was normal to offer lower quality feeds for people with slower connections, and I didn't see anything like that. Did anyone else have trouble with the feed?
Got home from my run just in time to see the last half of the men's race. Streaming was working fine on Windows Media Player. What is Qbrick? Sounds to me as if you'd be better off with WMP or Real.
However, I looked at TracTrac and it didn't seem to be working properly - the routes didn't seem to be calibrated to the map, so I turned it off and just watched the video with the sound down, but I did turn it up when I realised the Thierry i/v was in English!
What's with this commentator? He asked Thierry the same question that he also asked Emil Wingstedt after the WOC Sprint ('Why are you so good at Sprint/Middle Distance?') and got the same answer ('I don't know')!!!
I've also seen streaming video with screen shots.
Watched it over Media player and overall quality was ok..
was nice to watch anyway.
QBrick is the company that provided the streaming video. I was using Media Player 6, 9, and 10.
Sorry, I should be more specific. I use WMP for the viewer. Qbrick streamed the video to us all. I was receiving the feed just fine (I know this because the audio worked flawlessly). My question is about what gets sent from the streaming server. At times the feed was "video" and at other times it was "screen shots." Basically, there were no problems because I received exactly what was sent. I am trying to determine whether my SDSL connection is too slow for the streaming server to decide to always send me video.
Simmo, I assume (from your post) that you saw the run-ins as video and not as intermittent "screen shots." TIA.
BTW, I saw much of Tiomila as screen shots but when the leaders were on screen it was shown as video. Did anyone else experience this? Thx.
For those of you who didn't have the chance to watch it live: now it's available for download:
