The DVOA website is being maintained, so we cannot get any schedule information for this fun event. Could somebody post it here?

The database connection is down due to security issues. I'll put together information here.

Okay, event information had been updated.

Keep in mind, DVOA website is down and will remain down for unknown period of time. We hope to resolve issues sooner than later to satisfy our hosting provider and make it more secure.

Why wont the provider just bring it back up when DVOA wants it back up?

Read for context.

The issue is with the site code or database itself. It sounds as if the hosting provider won't allow the site back up until the security problem is fixed (on the DVOA end). Frankly, I wish more companies were as conscientious....

Yes, we know. We are working on it. Was there something you needed to know?

The web site:
http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/findapark/f...
includes the following statement:
Mountain bikes are prohibited south of Park Road and in Hopewell Furnace NHS.

Since the embargoed area for the upcoming Trail O event is south of Park Road, does DVOA have special permission for bikes on the Trail O course?

Robert, we are not planning to have mountain bikes on the Trail-O courses. Wheelchairs are permitted, but not mountain bikes.

I may not be understanding your question correctly. Are you thinking of a bike-orienteering? The trail orienteering is a map reading exercise/puzzle, primarily, where no bikes are involved. The competitors traverse the 500 m course with a goal of interpreting the map correctly at a set of viewing stations (in this case 14, plus 2 timed controls). There is 65 min to complete the event.

Is this what you were wondering about?

Daria,

Bicycles are allowed for Trail Orienteering according to the rules on both the IOF web site and the Orienteering USA web site.

IOF Trail Orienteering Rules

1.2 The mode of movement may be:
• on foot
• by wheelchair, either manual or electric
• on bicycle, tricycle or handcycle
• other modes, any recognised mobility aid.
No combustion-engined vehicle, nor any battery driven vehicle designed for more
than one occupant is permissible.

Orienteering USA Trail Orienteering Rules

D.2.2 The mode of movement may be:
a. on foot
b. by wheelchair, either manual or electric
c. on bicycle, tricycle or handcycle
d. other modes, any recognized mobility aid.

To answer the original question: special permission is not being sought to allow bicycles on the Trail O course. If any mode of transport is needed because of mobility limitations that will be allowed by the park without need for special permission.
